According to Wikipedia (the article on "Inspector gadget spin-off incarnations).

A brand new cartoon series of "Inspector Gadget" episodes has recently been rumoured at the J. E. Daniels Blogspot, which wrote on May 5, 2008, that "According to the current issue of Animation Magazine, DIC Entertainment is going to be reviving their bionic crime fighter for a brand new show to premier in early 2009. (...) The new show will have many of the original characters intact such as Penny, Brain, Chief Quimby and Dr. Claw. Complete with klutz comedy but with more of a darker edge. The series will have a design style that will lean more towards anime and the direction will be more cinematic with unique camera angles and dramatic musical cues." J. E. Daniels ends his blogspot by saying that 52 episodes of this new series will start their television run in the spring of 2009.

Sounds interesting. I imagine it being somewhat similar to shows like Danny Phantom, being a show that's first and foremost about comedy but with healthy doses of action and drama. Im having my fingers crossed that this time around we will finally find out how Gadget got his gadgets, whatever happened to Penny's parents, and what Dr. Claw's face looks like (i will never accept the toy version as canon! NEVER!).

Didn't they already have a darker Inspector Gadget on Robot Chicken? They combined it with the first two Terminator movies, had MAD Cat die of feline lieukemia (don't know the spelling off-hand), and Chief Quimby finally dies due to the self-destructing messages.

I've been hearing about this new Inspector Gadget series for a while now, but I haven't read any official press regarding it beyond this one Wiki article.

Remember, guys, it's Wikipedia; unless there's an official link or source provided, you have to take a lot of what you read there with a grain of salt.

I won't start viewing this as a reality until I see or read something official.

That was a parody of the original series. Not the same thing.

Everyone and their Aunt Gertrude can edit Wikipedia. Unless there's an official source listed or a link to an official source, this news is most likely bogus. Inspector Gadget never had a dark edge, nor did it need one. Every hero doesn't have to be Batman.

There was a thread about it last year, in which this Blog was mentioned in it. This production art was provided. However, I’m not really sure if the series continued in its development.

Im sure it wont try to be Batman, and that the "dark edge" mentioned is very relative, as in, simply a bit darker than the previous Gadget cartoons. It's pretty much a requirement in cartoons focusing on crime-fighters these days that even those that are mostly played for laughs, like Danny Phantom, Kim Possible or The Powerpuff Girls, can occasionaly go from pure comedy to a bit more dramatic. The original Gadget series was made in a different era, when a adventure - comedy cartoon of its kind wasn't expected to ever be anything more than 100% silly, harmless fun all the time. And while i still enjoy the original series more than most other 80's toons, i still think that a Gadget series made in todays typical action - comedy style would be better than the original.

Will they be able to have Frank Welker play Claw? He had the perfect voice for him (even though it was the exact same voice he used for darkseid) but i saw the robot chicken sketch (where welker did play claw) and it didnt sound as effective.

The idea of doing Inspector Gadget as less straight comedy and more as action-comedy has some merit.

I think, though, that I'd prefer the good Inspector's portrayal to be more like in the early episodes of the old series than like the more traditional one. Not completely clueless, but still kind of naive, clumsy and unlucky.
