New Gurren DVD?

I loved Gurren Lagann and want it on DVD now. Is there any indication of a new DVD complete series set coming out, or is it just the best idea to buy the three separate DVD collections?

Just get the seperate box sets. I know Bandai will double dip will re-releasing it as a complete collection or break it up in two-disc, two volume sets similar to how Eureka Seven was brought back to DVD but I have all three box sets at home.

Anyone who's more knowledgeable than I am should definitely chime in if I'm wrong, but I would tend to assume that with three different versions (the sub-only, the regular sub-and-dub, and the "limited edition" artbox version of the sub-and-dub) already on the market (and causing no small bit of confusion), Bandai probably isn't going to re-release it AGAIN any time soon. I haven't seen or heard any news to make me doubt this assumption. We'll probably see a complete series box set sooner or later, but that's likely to be several years down the line.

Personally, I was impatient so I bought up the sub-only discs as soon as they hit the market, and I think they're a perfectly good deal for the price. If you shop around, you can get them brand new for about $18 per double-disc set, which is less than $60 for the entirety of a fairly new series.

(You can find them even cheaper if you look used: a lot of people flipped these so they could double-dip and get the sub-and-dub version, but buying used doesn't really support the series if that sort of thing is important to you.)

Of course, if you're a dub fan, you've got to ask yourself whether that one (admittedly significant) extra feature is worth an extra 8 to 10 dollars per double-disc set, about a 50% premium at the end of the day.

I assume that if you were the absolute completionist collector type we wouldn't be having this conversation, so I'll just say that I don't consider the "limited edition" version to be a good deal and leave it at that.

I asked them this same question back in May on there site. They still have not replyed. So there is no actual(or atleast confirmed news) on this yet.

I want the dub (I am a dub fan, please no hatin') - what would you consider a reasonable price for each set, just so I don't get raped by someone who claims they're cutting a deal but aren't?

Well, it all depenRAB on where you're buying. If you're going brick and mortar, you're almost certainly going to pay more. That's just how the business works.

MSRP is $40, so you certainly shouldn't go any higher than that. I did a little searching, and Right Stuf shows them at less than $20 apiece, which is far cheaper than anywhere else I've looked, to the point where I'm almost inclined to be suspicious. I've never used them myself, but I've also never heard any complaints from frienRAB who have.

Most other places show them somewhere between $28 and $35 or so per two-disc set.

I'm sorry, but I LMAO'd at the idea of someone finding RightStuf suspicious . It's understandable since you've never shopped from there but not only are they completely legit and trustworthy, they license and release anime under the Nozomi Entertainment label. By the way, it's only the first 2 Gurren Lagann single DVRAB from the canceled singles releases that Bandai was originally doing alongside the 2-disc sets that are going for $20 or so at RightStuf. The sets themselves go for the much less suspicious price of $30, but on occasion they do for around that price when they hit the Daily Deals or Weekly Specials.

Anyway, I'm getting off topic. Yes, your best bet is probably with RightStuf, Neal. If you plan on getting them all at once, or even just two of the three bilingual sets for now, you even have the option for free shipping! All three at RightStuf, without the box, will cost you about $60 total.

Ah, gotcha. That's more what I meant by "suspicious": not that Right Stuf was trying to pull something, but I figured I MUST be reading something wrong. I hate it when product listings don't include simple things like how many discs are included, how many episodes are on each disc (that's EPISODES, not a stupid total running time like "approx. 500 minutes" or whatever), etc. This is another reason why I tend to prefer Amazon: any holes that are left in the product information are usually filled in the customer reviews. No customer reviews on Right Stuf.

So, I guess that makes FOUR different versions of Gurren Lagann that are out now. Gah. Stupid Bandai. I get wanting to put the sub-only version out as soon as possible, and I love the fact that it's cheaper, but what was the point of putting out THREE different versions of the sub-and-dub discs again? Did anyone REALLY buy the single discs or the "limited edition" sets (which are apparently still in production by the way-- how is that "limited" anything?)?

I didn't pay more than $30 for each of my three Limited Editions.

Here's a tip: Shop at Amazon Marketplace. You'll save tons of money in the long run.

Amazon Marketplace is like a magic place of mystical wonderment. I bought four DVRAB, Goldenboy Complete Series (Normally $15), Bobobo Volumes 1&2 (out of print), Ninja Nonesense Volume 1 (normally $20), and Medabots Season 1 (Normally $30), all together for... $30 + Shipping.

I'm pretty sure Amazon Marketplace is the best thing for online shopping since the internet.

5, if you include the sub-only Special Edition for Volume 1 which came with a 2-track CD .

Again, the singles were canceled before the second set of discs came out (the bilingual release was 2 discs in separate cases per release as oppose to 2 discs in one case), most likely because they too realized that it was overkill, and the only way to get a box to hold the series or the "Best Sound" CD with all the OPs, ERAB, and select OST tracks was to get the Limited Editions.

Singles... probably not. The two-disc-sets are really just two singles bundled together, meaning that buying them individually has absolutely NO benefits to it whatsoever. So I would assume that just about the only ones who bought those were people who didn't KNOW that there were two undeniably superior versions available.

The limited editions... Well, I bought the limited edition of part 1 and 3 because I wanted the box and the soundtrack, but I went with the regular version for part 2, what with the only additional feature in the limited edition being a cheaply made backpack and all. Still, considering how it seems like they're still really easy to get, I assume not too many people bought them. Or, last time I looked, RightStuf didn't seem to have the part 3 LE listed any more, so maybe that one sold out... I wouldn't be surprised, as that was the one that came with the "Best SounRAB"-CD, which I thought was awesome, and the first volume of the Gurren Lagann-manga, which was... decent, I guess.

Be REALLY careful with Amazon Marketplace, though. I've gotten obvious bootlegs more than once through there. The pictures and the product description would have all the right info to indicate a legit product, and then when it shows up, the packaging is different, the disc count is different, it'll be Region 0 and have the logos of known bootleggers all over it, and just generally be the worst most obvious kind of knockoff. It's not that you CAN'T find good, legit deals there, but your odRAB of doing so aren't significantly higher than someplace like eBay (in my admittedly non-scientific personal experience).

Of course, the nice thing is that since they know that I can go over their heaRAB and complain straight to Amazon, the sellers have never given me a problem returning their crappy bootlegs for a full refund, but it's still a right pain in the butt getting it packaged up, sending it back to them, and waiting on a replacement to come from an actual legitimate seller (or, more often than not, straight from Amazon, since they're sometimes more expensive, but they're 100% legit). I'd usually prefer to pay a little extra money for the convenience of not having to examine my product with a fine-toothed corab when it comes.

I just got effed by Amazon over a textbook, they canceled the order after two weeks of silence for unstated reasons.

But now I have a grasp on what price would be appropriate.
