New Gnutella client for Windows: FireFly

There's a new Windows Gnutella servent called "FireFly". It supports multiple/segmented downloading (ie download same file from different hosts).

See:

At the moment the program is completely free (no banner ads, no registration fee, fully functional).

has anyone tried this program? and if so what do they think?

to answer some of my own questions, i would like to say that this is a neat little program that is simple, yet useable, will someone else try it out and tell me what they think?

Ok,first impressions...interface is cool and clean, connecting to Gnet is almost instantaneous(once the initial hostcache has been built) search results come in thick and fast. The segmented downloading works like it should.
The only annoying thing is that there is no search differentials.ie mp3,avi,jpg etc,not really a big deal. And also the search results don't combine to let you know how many people you will be simultaneously downloading from, again not a big deal.
Overall this is an excellent new client, which I'll definitely be using along with PEERanha and Limewire Pro and also Gnucleus.

I did some testing with it last night and i agree that it is a nice little client, i agree that it also needs a search filter.

i didnt seem to see my downloads attempt to retry on there own, i do not know what the time is on them, and mabye i got impatient, but can you check on that bullet? and see if your tries to reconnect to hosts that it were either down or got a busy signal...

Also, does anyone know who wrote this program? Some ideas about improvements have been brought up and we would like to suggest them to the developers

I like FireFly :-) Quickly made its way up to my "favorites". Very elegant user interface, quite smart in some areas. It does need some more tweaking here and there, but all minor IMO.

I'm just wondering about this by-line:

No one can work for free, so I can accept that :-) Just hope it will not be in the form of banner ads or 'x-ware'. I'd rather purchase a license.

Speaking of which - I did notice the poll about spyware. However, there should be a new topic based on this: Would you pay for a Gnutella client, or otherwise financially support it? Why or why not? I'm interested to see that being discussed - I'm sure opinions vary widely.

Hi Mike!

I raised such a poll for Limewire:

But you can raise a new poll here if you want!
