New Garfield series still a go

Well the DTV released not too long ago is getting its sequel released in a bit, you can take a look at the box art from the game which will most likely be the same as the DVD (it was for Garfield Gets Real). And apparently there is a third one in the works too. So we are getting new garfield at least in DTV form right now.

I really enjoyed the cartoon series as a child, so I'm hoping this new version does justice to it. I just hope the voice isn't too bad. Frank Welker is talented, but we're all so used to a certain sound coming from Garfield. The voice used in the Garfield movie just did not do it for me.

I have to agree with that. I haven't seen GGR, but I have heard Frank's Garfield in previews. With his Garfield voice there, you can tell he was attempting to make it sound like Lorenzo's, but it really didn't. I think it's best if he just leaves it at that. As talented as Welker is, Lorenzo's voice is really hard to recreate. I sort of agree with J.B. that maybe Garfield shouldn't have been put back into animation after Lorenzo's death. But on the other hand, I also agree with Blackstar that since Music didn't create Garfield, there's no reason not to continue to use him in animation. It's just something I need to think about some more. Though I don't see why they didn't get Desiree Goytee or Thom Huge for GGR. If the rest of the voice cast is still around, why not use them. That might give a new Garfield cartoon the same kind of feel that the 80s cartoons had.

There's a second voice they chose before Frank. I don't know his name, but he was heard in a video game and a PSA about writing. His voice was closer to Lorenzo's, but he just couldn't act. Not at all. So continuing a character voice is more than just sounding like him. It's all about embodying the character's personality, and speach patterns. A lot of continuing roles sound sort of like the original, but not quite, and they seem to really have the character's spirit down.

Wow, seriously? That's fantastic, I was a huge fan of Pet Force way back when.
I didn't think anyone besides me and a handful of people actually remembered the Pet Force series, much less would consider still making anything based on it.
