I hope everyone likes my riddles.

I am a contest. A singing contest. But i'm no American Idol. I was created by a Frenchman & I'm made to untie all of the countries in Europe after the war. Instead of participants, countries take part on the contest. I'm 53 years old now, and the most recent winner of the contest is a Scandinavian country. Who am I?
