New Exhaust Problem

This question's for the folks that did their own exhaust and intake. Finally spent a little money on my bike, got a cobra exhaust, k&n filter and a PCIII. finally got everthing installed, installed the map on the PCIII. I've riden it for a couple of days and when i decelerate the exhaust will pop a couple of times. It really dosn't sound bad, but I thought the PCIII was supposed to elimenate any popping. I called power commander and the tech said I needed to plug the holes in the air box that go to the cylinders. so i plugged them and it still pops. If anyone has any experience in this, any help would be greatly appreciated.

the power commander map, might not be right...
Custom mapping on a dyno is the only sure fire way to know it's right...
The pair valve pumping extra air into the exhaust can cause popping...
I'd start with the cheaper fix of removing the pair valve...
Cover kit for removing the pair valve cost about 24.00....
If that doesn't get the pop to cease, then it's time for some dyno work...
Custom mapping is gonna cost around 200.00 or so, depending on the shop...

I would suggest first riding the bike and seeing what your gas mileage is doing..
If it drops. Or you start to notice excess gas odor on start. You might have the wrong map. My 06 c90t is running a zero map and dyno'd out within factory specs..Didn't need the power commander..
But when the stock map was in I lost mileage and could smell gas. So check it or dyno it to get it right..

Thanks for the info. I think I know what you're talking about with the pair valve, it's under the cover that looks like an intake cover, right. And it has two pipes that go the the bottom of each cylinder. and where did you get the cover kit to close them up? I don't smell any excess fuel, so i'll try removing the pair valve first and see what that does. I don't even think there's a place to dyno it anywhere close to where I live. I'll just have to wait for the big bike week in the spring.

yellowj, where in panhandle are you? I put my hc3 filter and pclll and got popping also. Plugged pair valve hoses and that seemed to fix most of it. Anyway Im in Tallahassee with basically the same setup as you.

nateW: thanks for the info, have one on order. Found a site that shows how to plug the hoses with a couple of screws as a temp fix. Just ran it and it helped a little.

floridajay: i'm in Panama City.

It seems to me that a little pop is just the nature of the beast. Mine pops at low speed high rpm and some at decel. My mpg has gone up about 5% on the hwy with the new pipes and fi2000r. Also you may need to check the torque on header bolts. If there is a small leak that can cause a pop as well. For the c90t this should be 17ftlbs. I did not notice any difference after removing the pair valve but the bike looks better without those stupid hoses.

Well hope I don't get any of that problem because I got no cash to be messing arround...

Today I order a set of jardine straigt cut drag pipes with the hope I will plug and play...

Lets see what happens...

I took mine off as well but eventually did not like the naked jug look so I put it back on. This winter I am hoping I can figure out how to install a hypercharger, mostly for looks, using the mounting of the pair valve cover. Don't know if it is possible but we shall see. I really like the color of you bike Nate, that is your bike right?
