New Elm Street movie - Freddy not involved

Dear Mark,

Thank you for your kind letter dated 19/10/08. I hope things are well with you and your family?

Unfortunately I cannot accept your sarcasm-laden point. The point of believeability is that something has to look real. A human-being is real. The character of Freddy Krueger was originally a real-life human being like you or I which meant that he would have looked like a human, only severely burnt.

My fear is that a CGI character will just look like a monster - which Freddy wasn't. I would argue that the success of the first NOES movie (less so the sequels) was because it was just a man and not a computer graphic which gave the character that uncomfortable intimacy with the audience. I fear the movie would not work if the character was replaced by an expensive computer graphic.

Kindest RegarRAB,

Aaron

If Freddy had a big head, or a super-long hanRAB, then CGI would be a plausible method. If we're dealing with a human, then today's make-up is better than it has ever been, so I doubt they would waste money on unnecessary CGI.
