New Daylight Savings Time Change Effect on Palm OS

It is possible to edit the city information inside of Prefs-->Date & Time. You can select the dates that DST starts and ends. City Time and City Time Alarms has also been updated.

I took a look at CityTime. Thing is with all these ......

DST is changing over the next two years in the USA so therefore City Time and others I saw will probably throw things off starting in 2007. That's because they come with the "preset" date that DST occurs. These dates are changing.

Make sense?

Ha. Saw this yesterday myself! What I'll probably do is switch off "aut adjustment," xsince it will be "auto wrong." I thought it was hard coded into the OS and can't be changed other than manually- but I'll check out if it can be changed per dwinget's post.

Just FYI - The good news is a longer period (March to November instead of April-October) of DST; this will greatly improve traffic as it will be "light" longer int he afternoons, at least here in California. Woo hoo!

CityTime is the only proggie I know that allows you to change the DST interval and set/reset date for any given city (Europe has always been a little bit "off" the American schedule, and Hawaii and Arizona don't observe it which would be the right thing to do).

As far as the Palm internal that Syno is asking about - I don't believe there's a way to tweak it but once again dwinget may have taught me something. . . nope. At least T3 prefs allow for city change and format of HH/DD/MM, but not when DST actually takes effect/goes away. Oh well. Not much to ask for twice a year - although if anyone forgets their alarms will be thrown off.

This one...... "aClock" will do the trick as well. AND ...... then integrates with aDSTKeeper (which will automatically do it for you).

Yeah, great news...that means our days of triple-digit temperatures here in southcentral Texas will last longer! :mad:

At this rate, why don't we just shift the clock forward one hour and leave it there? C'mon, it's nine months out of 12...

I took another look at this. You need to do the following to set the options in Date & Time in System Preferences:

1. Click on Location drop-down list. Choose Edit List.

2. Highlight the name of the city. You may have to add the city if it is not on the list.

3. Tap the Edit button.

4. Put a check in the box next to where it says This location observes Daylight Saving Time. This box must be checked in order to have access to the options.

5. Modify the settings in the Start and End fields. Another dialog will appear which allows specific date information to be entered in. You can choose week number, day of week, or specific date.

6. Tap the OK button.

The program developer, Codecity, is really good about updating the program. Free updates are provided on a regular basis. I'm confident that they will update the city information and make it available to registered users.
There is a utility in CityTime which allows city information to be edited. You can also import city information from Memos or create new cities. You do need to know city location when creating a new city.
 
@Dwinget . . . once again you are a God among men. I thought you'd teach me something - you did!! I was just too dumb to look past the "options/settings" other than a name change from "San Francisco," which is the only default CA City. Anyway, here's the list of dates for upcoming years:

2007 March 11 November 4
2008 March 9 November 2
2009 March 8 November 1
2010 March 14 November 7
2011 March 13 November 6
2012 March 11 November 4

so as we can see, it's 2nd Sunday in March, 1st Sunday in November. Just change those (I just did, following your directions) - and presto - done. Another option would be at least to turn Daylight Savings OFF for that city. Not as "automatic," but at least folks (thanks to you) won't have it occurring on the WRONG date.

Have to hand it to Palm for making that date changeable; if you were designing a handheld I think the last variable you'd consider would be the changing of DST dates . . . thank you dwinget!! / p
