cricket 800 nuraber lead rep said the can't change my esn on a new account if it is less than 30 days old and that I only can go to a corp store (not independant cricket store) to do it? this is a major pain, with crowding, lines, etc. of the corp. stores. anyone know a way around it?

if you purchased a new phone and got a month of service free you they will not do the esn change to an esn that is not new. this is to prevent fraudulant activations...

are you by any chance in phoenix? every single fraudulent activation i have ever encountered has been out of the phoenix market...

Yes, in phx. Well how can it be a "fraudulent activation" if a person breakes or looses their new phone and they replace it with a different one? Aren't they still entitled to their free month?

:^/ A fraudulent activation would be activating an imaginary or non-existent ESN for a month's free service, then transferring the month's free service to the real ESN of your existing phone. Voila; a month's free service on your existing account. Next month, do it again with another made-up ESN.

;^) Of course, preventing people doing that is easy; no transferals allowed until the first free month is finished.

it can be overridden, and the month will still be free (well the first month free is never billed). but this is fraudulent only if the customer has not actually purchased the original new phone.
