New card required for activation

Not sure how you accomplished that but the gal at the Bell store suggested that if I don't get satisfaction from a CSR to ask to speak to someone in "Retention". Gonna give it a try and will get back here with the results. If that doesn't work, maybe Visiter will pass on their secret.

This appears to be the major difference;

There was NO account, the OP's account was cancelled, that is most likely why Bell want $100 for the new cards.

I have receivers on my account that are not currently active. I just activated them to obtain a card, the 3200 was one of them, and then I had it suspended after a month or so. I have no intention of paying for a Card either.

Really not worth it...

You can easily sell your 3100-4100 on Kijiji for 50$
Your 5800-5900-6100 for 150$
And 9200-9242 for 300-400$

I agree but at least we now know that Bell will take back receivers and actually pay for them.

I know of a Commercial client who updated over 250 x 3100's to 6141's in the last 2 months, he is NOT prepared or allowed to sell his receivers on E-Bay etc. I will let him know about this Buy Back.

OK, just got off the phone with a CSR who was quite easy to understand. She said I would receive a new smart card in 7 - 9 days and there was no charge associated with it. She said that because it was my receiver and that it was inactive and therefore not covered in the initial mailing of smart cards, I would be receiving the new one at no charge. Hmmmm, guess it depends on who you talk to and how well they understand the situation. Didn't have to play the "retention" card but it is worth having it in your back pocket if you don't get the results you want. Will check back in 7 - 9 days (lol).

Glad to hear.

Yes, I almost always tell people to call again if they do not get the answer they want, it all depnds on how well trained the CSR is and how you speak to them.

Normal is 5 business days for the Card to arrive.

Not sure if they buy back the receivers of commercial clients... I think buy back only applies to residential customer

Was you card white (pre Alladin) or blue with a yellow arrow?

If it was a white card that means it should have been replaced a long time ago...
Don't recall when the last card swap actually took place, but Bell decided last summer that it has been long enought and clients who had not received, lost or thrown away the new card had tio buy a new one.

A replacement smartcard is 69$ (but it's written 100$ on their on line contract

If you had a blue and yellow card you will just follow the swap card process...when a receiver that was inactive gets activated and has an old card the system automatically ships a new one FREE OF CHARGE

Maybe if I transfer them to me, then sell them back to Bell.

There is always a problem isn't there, nothing is straightforward with bell.

Who comes up with the Names for the Cards, is it Bell or Nagravision.?

Alladin was the last batch, this current batch are the DaVinci Cards.....

I have a different SmartCard / activation question. Will Bell allow a card from a deactivated receiver to be used in a different model? My daughter took over my 5900 and wants to activate it on her account, but cannot find the card. I have a card from last year's exchange that is for a 2700 that was supposed to have been deactivated a long time ago - don't ask me why I got the card. So can I give her that card for the 5900?

No, once a card is activated it is locked to the original receiver number essentially (as far as Bell is concerned) to that receiver, both in the inventory system and on the card itself.

If you have access to the card number though, you should be able to transfer it, then a new card will be sent to replace the (nonexisting) old card. You may be able to pull this off your profile on the Bell site.

If you get a good CSR and explain that the card is missing, and that a new card must be sent anyway, they may allow you to transfer the unit. Worst case, call up and say you have a couple of cards and see if they will tell you which one should be in that reciever LOL.

Thanks - I do have the number so we'll give this a try.

It's really hit and miss! I generally communicate via the Chat option, and have never had a problem using that approach.

Actually any card can be "married" to any receiver but you have to get the right department and it helps if you are a Bell tech or a Contractor to achieve this.

I'm not sure from the OP if teh card was activated or not though. I still think the simplest approach is to provide the proper card # even without the actual card.

If:
a) The "new" card for the 2700 was never activated, it *may* be possible to convince someone that you can use it for the 5900. However, again, it will not match what they have in inventory and will no doubt be a lot of hassle. You may or may not be successful. I'd give you 10% odds.

b) If the "new" card was actually activated in the 2700, I'd say you have a 0.01% chance of getting someone to switch it to the 5900.
