New buyer of boulevard

Just moved to Califorina from Taiwan 1 year ago.
I'm considering to buy a S50(or maybe M50) instead of driving my SUV to save gas.

What is the out the door price could be for S50(M50)?

Thanks for replying..

The S50 and M50 are radically different bikes, with different frames, engines, drive lines- basically different everything. The S50 is faster, lighter, and about $500 cheaper, but the M50 has more contemporary styling, is roomier, and has a smoother ride. Most people are drawn to one or the other.

As for price, small motorcycles are getting more and more popular with high gas prices, the dollar is weak compared to the yen, and the profit margin on small bikes is not as fat as on a large bike. So you are not going to get a steal of a deal on an 800cc model right now. A 'good' price is MSRP + tax + tag fee + title fee. Anything below that, or any extra goodies they give you like a helmet or jacket, are gravy and make the deal better, so your best be is to shop several dealers and see who gives you the most free stuff with the purchase or who gives you the best interest rate on the loan, if applicable. You should not pay extra for assembly or dealer prep, as those are both included in MSRP.

I bought my C90 to save on gas and then I spent 2K on goodies. Still get good mileage though and the bike is more shiny.

Thanks for your reply!

I went to several Suzuki local dealers to see if I can fit the M50(I'm 5'10'', 170lb). But could't see any M50 or S50. To tell the truth, I'v never seen any M50 on the road or in the showroow. All the info are from web site.

I think before I place order on this machine I have to check it out and sit on it to feel it.

And the guy of one dealer told me he can put my order on the wating list but he couldn't promise me how long gonna wait for it. Maybe serval months.

I couldn't believe it.. I thought we were in the period of economic recession right now.

You're also in the period where most dealers have sold off their 2008 inventory and are waiting for 2009 models. Some start discounting their 2008 inventory as early as June!

The M50 is a bigger bike - both wheelbase and width and more importantly, weight.

The S50 has a 100lb advantage over the M50 which is good for a new rider. It is also good if you like a faster bike - the S50 will outperform the other Suzuki 50s (and most other V-twin cruisers under 1600cc).
Not sure how comfy the stock M50 seat is, but I found the stock S50 seat butt numbing after about 30 minutes of riding. There are plenty of aftermarket options to fix that.

As a commuter in traffic the S50 is likely to be more nimble and maneuverable based on it's wheelbase, and weight.

If you're a new rider, please take a MSF course and if you're a returning rider try and take a refresher course.

Personally, if i had to commute in certain parts of California, I'd drive. Just a numbers game - so much more traffic means so many more opportunities to be invisible!

I can identify with this. I ride because I like to ride. Commuting in rush hour traffic is intense, and not much fun. On the freeways it's intense even in my truck, as drivers have become really aggressive here (in Calif). Even around town I prefer to avoid the rush hour traffic on the bike.

If you are getting a motorcycle to save on gas, you might want to think hard about what you are up against. Commuters are in a big hurry, and you are invisible. Also, I second the good advise to take a Safety Course. Also, some really good info to read is this:

If you always ride as if you are invisible, you will be much safer.

The "out-the-door" price (including tax) in August, 2006 for my '06 S50 was $6,173. Over the 22 months I owned it, I logged 6,500 enjoyable and trouble-free miles, often riding 2-up with my wife. There were some cold-starting issues, but recommendations from this forum helped out a lot. I added lots of luggage accessories for our trips to the Colorado mountains. When I traded it last June for an '08 Yamaha V-Star 1300T, I was given several hundred dollars over "Blue Book," even though I'd removed all the luggage. The S50 was resold immediately. If I were you, I'd seriously consider ORBrit's offer on his '07 S50.
