New Bell or possible new Bell customer questions and discussion

As to the question about the number of BTV HD Channels they have 101 HD channels this includes ALL PPV,Sports PPV Packages, Sports Channels,Network & Specialty channels english & french, This doesn't include the 2 or 3 "Private" Biz only channels. :)

My reference to a 3 Year Term was Telus TV, not Bell.

There is also NO reason why Rental and ORS cannot be installed at the same time on a new Customer account with Bell TV, you just need to have 2 seperate OMX #'s.

I recently purchased an HDTV and am looking into my TV provider options. I am thinking of Bell b/c the receivers are cheap and the monthly fees seem competitive. I am scared to death of billing nightmares. I also can't price anything out on their web site without it becoming too confusing.

So, to the question. If I purchase the 6131 HD receiver (http://www.bell.ca/shopping/PrsShpTv...r_61065.page#0), will I receive a $100 credit on my bill AND $10 off per month for 24 months (assumes a 2 yr contract)? Or is the $100 off for purchases only and the $10/mo off for rentals only? I called Bell but the rep seemed even more confused than me. Walked into a store and received conflicting info again. Hopefully some of you have gone through this and can shed some light here.

And, one more question. If I bundle this with my home phone service (the only other service I currently have with Bell) will I get an additional monthly discount? If so, how much? Some say $10/mo others say $5/mo

Many thanks!

Isn't the 10 day grace period a government bylaw, in any case, yes they still have it.

jakemtl, I was a Bell TV CSR unitl my employer, Convergys CMG Canada LP, lost the external partner contract from Bell during its recent consolidation of outsource partners.

I think you are maling a smart choice, but buy the receiver at Best Buy or Future Shop and get them to price match the offer from the Source or they may have the receiver on sale further.

How does the Bell Offer compare with offers from Videotron? It it cheaper?

Thanks for the advice cslusarc.

The Bell offer is pretty competitive when compared to Videotron. I have been a Videotron Illico customer for years. With my recent purchase of a HDTV set I began to explore my options. Videotron pricing would be approximately $10-15 more per month for a similar package, but the main differences for me are:

- Cost of the receiver. The Videotron PVR is a fortune, even on sale. With Bell I can get the 6131 and plug in an external hard drive. The non-PVR HD terminal from Videotron is more expensive than Bell's.
- HD Channels. Bell has more and is more likely to get more. Videotron has a few, and will likely focus more on french content.

I was planning to buy four 6131 receivers from thesource as they were giving $400 credit for the purchase of 4 receivers, but while chatting with Bell representative I was told that Bell has the same offer (I understand that thesource is now owned by Bell). On Bell's website it says "Enjoy extra savings on the purchase price of additional HD receivers" and shows a $100 as a credit when you buy the additional receiver.

But when I tried to place the order online for some reason it only shows a $100 hardware credit (for the primary receiver) and $25 credit for ordering online i.e. a total of only 125. The Bell representative kept on insisting the remaining credits ($ 300) will show up on the invoice and since this was a new offer the system had not been updated. But my concern was why doesn

Bell's on-line system is just so flawed it is unreal. I would say that if The Source were offering an instant $100 rebate per receiver, get them there, for your own peace of mind.

You are aware that with the purchase of 4 receivers you do not get a free installation for them all, just 2 of them. Unless this has changed recently.

Earlier in the month, Best Buy and Future Shop were offering an instore discount of $100 a 6131 when you purchased a HDTV.

Thanks for the response.

Pinza,
Thesource offer is also a credit on the account. So basically I need to purchase the receivers from thesource at full price, then call bell, give them some reference number and then Bell will give the $100 credit per receiver on the invoice. The online order did list a $50 installation charge per additional receiver (beyond the initial 2).

cslusarc,
I already have the TV's, I just need the receivers.

Guys - is Bell picture quality better than cogeco? Also, how much better is the programming? I don't see that many stations being different.

Just need to watch out in case they decide to charge you for the SW44 @ $150 as well. If they do, it becomes an expensive installation.

I was loking at this and im in ontario. The way i read it from this link, under full pricing details is you only get both if you signup for a two year deal. and there are plenty of post on this page with refrences to getting credits

You either get $10 off per month for renting or a one time $100 credit on the 6131 for buying, not both. One deal is for buying the other for renting. Unless the QC deal is different which I don't think it is after checking the QC version of the Bell website.

This is quite misleading though, I called agents before signing up and was told I could expect both. This is clearly not the case!

If you are purchasing I recommend buying it from the source (or price matching at FS etc... even better!) as it is $50 cheaper than through Bell or through other retailers.

I ended up purchasing, and am yet to see the $100 credit on my bill (have only had one bill). I have been assured it will show up on my 2nd bill though :)

Good luck!

In Ontario:

All customers with a HD Receiver, a HD-PVR or a PVR can get a $5/month Bell Bundle discount if they have atleast 1 other qualifying Bell service.

When singing up you choose whether you are renting or purchasing your primary equipment.

If you are thinking of renting any equipment add it first otherwise there maybe some charges for professional installation starting at $75 per tuner when you add rental equipment later. (Exceptions are the Nimiq 2 Uprgrade Programme and the Free Rental Save Offers.) This is your primary equipment. You the become eligible for the Q3 2009 Core Rental Offer of $10/month for 12 months.
All rental contracts must be 2 years long for new customers. As an added benefit Bell will install upto 4 tuners for free. They may still have a Limited Time Offer for an addtional $5/month off the 9241 for the first 12 months, making the HDPVR free for a year in a Bell Bundle.

If you are purchasing you have the choice of either a 1-year or 2-year contract, but with either offer you still save $100-$200 with the Q3 2009 ORS Core Offer. As mentioned in previous threads, the length of contract can determine you cost of professional installation and if you choose a 2-year contract Bell will install 2 receivers for free.

Hello all. I want to sign up for bell TV, and I was wondering if as a new customer can I negotiate the monthly price? I was looking into HD Essentials but it starts at $54 + $10 rental + $3 activation, which is a bit pricey.

Programming wise, I want at least the basic package with the free HD channels and at least 4 SD packages. I already have bell internet and phone so I was hoping to use that to get a better deal but no luck so far. Do you guys have any pointers? Whats the best deal you've heard of (through retention, or new customer)? Thanks

The current promo is for $100 off the purchase price of additional HD receivers. It's not instant, though. It shows up as a credit usually on your first bill. So, you would get a $300 credit ($100 for each additional receiver), plus the credit for the first receiver ($100 or $200 likely, depending on the model).

And pinza's right. The installation is only for the first two receivers. The other two are chargeable.
