lol thanks for the tip dharper. I have called several times for different billing questions/issues and each time have been assured it will be on the next bill. Right now all I can do is wait, and call back if it's not on bill #2 :D

Don't know why the $100 new customer credit isn't automatic as soon as you sign up? Do they figure some people will just not notice and they won't have to pay it this way?

nope, it's not a website error. QC gets better offers because of fierce competition, Videotron, Rogers, Starchoice, etc. You'll get both offers as long as it's registered correctly, ie. ordering online.

I will go order in store tonight. Online workflow doesn't seem to work - can't get the receiver purchase along with the package in the cart (it defaults to a rental, no other choice).

Do you think Bell store will pricematch receiver price at The Source ($50 less)?

Thanks for the answer.

When talking to Bell salesman, I was told that they don't have the 10-day grace period anymore. Is this true?

I currently have Shaw Cable in Calgary w/ 2 hd receivers (PVR) and standard cable on one tv.

I'm looking at switching to Bell with 1 hd receiver, bought for the $199 - 100 hardware credit. I would also like to add 2 standard rental receivers.

When I called bell, the guy said I could only be a rental customer or purchase customer, not both.

Can anyone tell me how I can get this setup in my house at the lowest cost possible with installation?

1 HD non-PVR receiver
2 standard receivers

Thanks,
kaddy

Actually, in Quebec, Videotron has a different pricing scheme: They seem to underprice their Video services while have very high prices on their High Speed Data services. For example in Shaw territory Expanded Basic Cable is about $60/month and HSD is $35/month, but in Quebec those prices are like reversed.

If I were I Bell customer in Quebec, I would buy the IRD and get both the Q3 2009 Core ORS offer ($100 off 1st IRD or $200 off 1st 9241) and the Quebec Attack offer ($10/month for 24 months). Note: the Quebec Attack offer is not combinable with the Q3 2009 Core Rental offer ($10/month for 12 months).

In Quebec the Bell Bundle discount on TV services is $10/month.

You will also receive a $5 or $10 on your home phone service depending upon you local and long distance phone plans.

Ah, perhaps they're counting the duplicated channel's in the 1000's now. So that was their motive ;)

Kaddy, I world sign up at Bell.ca as a rental customer and get that $25.00 bell.ca credit along with the $10/month Q3 2008 Rental Core Offer for the 1st 12 months.

Then I would go to a retail outlet and buy a 6131, hopefully you can pick it up for less than $199 before tax. When the technician comes to install he will install everything even if he has to the Home Services desk to modify your work order for extra charges.

Greetings,

I have just recently left Shaw Direct.

I now have to decide between Bell, Shaw cable and Telus.

Why should i go with Bell rather than the other two?

Adam

Just out of curiosity ... have you considered Telus satellite TV? It's similar to Bell TV in your area but there's no contract required.

i have been with bell and shaw direct(currently) and cogeco(not on your list) i can honestly say that aside from a handful of different stations here and there, there is no diference between any of them. there hw all has its own bugs they offer pretty much the same bundles, they all hose you the same way for hd programing. my advice to you is if you still have your shaw direct equipment just hook it back up, and save the expense of new equipment and the hassel of signing a contract from the others on your list. unless you were intersted in an hd pvr then i heard the bell tv pvr was good

Bell don't want you to cancel so they might 'forget' to mention it but it does exist. I believe that if you do cancel within the 10 day period, you are still liable for some charges on a Pro Rata basis.

I think you will find that there is a Contract if you want a free installation, just the same as Bell TV.

I know for a fact that they offer a Rent Free HDPVR if you sign up for 3 years.

Depending on what you currently have for phone and internet Telus has some very good bundle options. Free equipment and installation, plus the Telus satellite is the same as Bell so your better off with Telus if you already have one of their services.

lanceaboil, this offer you received covers Digital Standard ($32/month), SD US Timeshifting ($1/month which is optional), and 4 HD Themes with HD US Timeshifting (More HD Sports, HD Variety, More HD Variety and HD World for $10/month). Add on the $3/month digital service fee and you get what they offered. That 160 number is a sum of all HD and SD stations you'd receive. This is a standard offer.

Just visited the Bell TV website the current promotion (outside of ON and QC) has been updated.

New purchase customers can get a 9241 for $299, a 6131 for $99 or a 4100 for $49. They can add a second 6131 for $99.

New rental customers still save $10/month for 12 months but you get a second 6131 for only $3/month for 24 months, saving an additional $7/month for 24/months.

This is one of the most aggresive offers, I've seen from Bell TV in a while.

I don't think they can take away the 10-day grace period. If the salesman told me that, I would question what else the salesman told me.

I didn't think they bother calculating any pro rata charges during the 10 days. If they do, it's just the time between activation and disconnection.

Thanks for the clarification cslusarc. Are you a bell employee?

I will take your advice and purchase the receiver and go for the $100 off AND the $10 off per month for 24 months. I'm looking at the HD Essentials package which is advertised at $49.99 but seems more like $69.99 before discounts and when including the 4 HD theme packs! Sounds like I would get it at $49 after bundling - ok, but not great.

I currently have the Home Phone Choice . No other Bell services.

No such thing as a 3-year contract. Free install for 2 years.

You can add a purchased receiver to a rental contract or a rental receiver to a purchased contract. You just can't set up the initial order with both. In the first ten days of the grace period, you can negotiate a little.

The rental savings is better, but you also have to consider that the initial installation will be for two receivers, and you will require extra hardware if you install a third, either professionally or by yourself.
