Lets keep the posts back on topic.

This is about the new HD theme packs being offered by bell.

There is no consiparacy here hahaha ...industry knowledge alone tells you that broadcasters such as TSN, RSN contractually ensure that their HD channel is linked to their SD...all BDU's do it - show me one that doesnt. I think its SHAW and or Cogeco who asls link Nat Geo and Showcase??

Its very simple. Take Sports 1 SD and you have access to virtually all the HD channels offerred by Bell. how is this gauging if BDU's are forced to link TSN and RSN??

Explain...

So CRTC does not allow TSN HD without the SD version? What is the purpose of that?

Do not think it has anything to do with the CRTC but marketing ploys used by the DTH and Cable operators to ensure maximum revenue. Believe the current linkage requirements are only applicable to SD channels. Stand to be corrected but not aware of any HD linkage requirements from the CRTC.

One thing I have noticed is that under new selection we get more free HD channels . Now I am thinking of canceling HD pack and just enjoy free HD channels.

Interceptor, actually, Bell is only obligated to continue to deliver the HD programming, or SD for that matter, that was available to you when you originally subscribed to the package you have. I'm pretty sure they have lived up to that and then some.

You can't tell me that they've ever taken away a channel that you had subscribed to and I'm sure you've received additional SD and HD channels since then without additional cost. Well, except for the BS charge they've probably tacked on so you could continue to keep that old package. I wasn't happy about that either but they did add quite a few channels that I didn't have originally, both SD and HD.

Of course that shouldn't stop us from complaining to Bell every once in a while that we aren't getting our money's worth. Otherwise they'll get complacent.

I know if I make changes to my HD services that I lose the current $10 package but does anyone know if I would be affected if I make a change (reduction) to my SD service packs not involving TSN (Sports Pack 1).

reidw, no Bell throws in some descretionary services like MTV Canada, CMT and W Network that are in tiers or theme packs on Shaw. And with Shaw you must have HD Sports or HD Plus to get TSN HD/TSN2 HD and Rogers Sportsnet HD.

I see that you can now take TSN HD as a single channel. Does that mean you no longer have to subscribe to TSN SD in a theme pack before getting TSN HD? Same question for Sportsnet HD?

assume you have forgotten the negative option fiasco that made your guys so famous in the media...

The time shifting fee is unfortunately in there as well

Top left corner of p41 in "Show" mag: HD Theme Packs - Time shifting on U.S. HD networks FREE with the purchase of 4 or more HD theme packs or available as add-on

I wonder will they charge more than the $1 for time-shifting, as with the SD stations (I already pay that $1)

Note the capitals in FREE are Expressvu's emphasis

Also p40 lists the items included in the "Free HD Channels", and specifically says East or West under each relevant channel

Interestingly CBC is mentioned as one (no E W option), so it looks like we may never get CBC Vancouver on Expressvu, out here in the West

Gino it was my understanding that any new added HD channels that I subscribed to in SD would be added to my programming. This was the deal that I signed up to and Bell followed this deal until they added the new HD themes. I can sort of accept that this new programming setup supersedes my deal, but when they went back in time to take away 2 channels, I got angry and I still am, so I could see them taking away the HIFi theme too.

To get the 3 channels in HD sports theme 1 you have to first sub to SD sports theme 1 and 2
Can keep this away from another Eaton's vrs Simpson's war ?

Humpty,

You've gotta uncheck all of your old HD before it will even let you order the new HD.
If you were on the old $62 package, its new edition will give you 4 HD packs for 10 bucks. Make sure that if you do this you also select the separate item "HD alternate feeds" because you get the US Networks East HD feeds if you live in the west or West HD feeds if you live in the east for free if you check this and have already selected 4 HD theme packs. By the way, you get all of the candian networks and some canadian specialty channels in HD for free under the new structure. One difference between old and new is that once the preview ends, the old subscribers won't have access to NG HD or Showcase HD unless they switch over to theme packs. Right now, with HD packs are kinda small (2 or 3 channels each), and there are 5 of them, so you'll lose 2 or 3 channels (I opted to go without Rush HD and Rogers Sportsnet HD).

That is off topic, I was suggesting price increase on HD services as other BDU's just did. I.e. Rogers. I am being grandfathered at my current rate, that is great. This is no PRICE INCREASE to all existing subscribers who have the HD pack today.

Still waiting for your solution....thought so.

look on the second page and where it says digital standard. It says free HD is included and below it has a list of Free HD channels
