New Bell HD Packages (formerly titled: Bell HD Price Increase)

Right, so in reality if you only want both sports HD packs it will cost you $20 per month because you first need the SD packages. If you now have to select the HD packages individually then you should certainly not have to buy the SD theme packs first - it's a huge ripoff.

lol,, well that does seem to make more sense,, 3 themes, channels are relatively the same,, what happened to sportsnet HD lol??
I still like the fact that I'm not forced to pay $10 to have US and Canadian networks in HD. To me it seemed like a service fee to access HD. uh oh maybe I said too much, maybe next month theres going to be a HD access fee lol.. but yaa, i can it sucks for those who like those channels and now have to pay like $15 to get the same thing as they used to get at $10, but hey what hasnt gone up in price these days. Housing, Gas, Utilities, Groceries.. humm seems like a trend...

The HD themes are prices separately from SD themes. However, to get some of the HD channels you must also purchase an SD theme with the same station.

Why is it you guys that switch to Rogers, only ever post in the BEV forums? We already have one troll here, and your post will do nothing but drag this thread off topic. Move along.

You've gotta hand it to those EV marketing guys. They arranged the new HD packages so that you either have to pay $15 or lose one or more HD channels. This is not good. I feel like I'm being screwed again. Poor package arrangements on *C are one of the reasons I dumped them. EV is getting as bad/will be worse once these packages take effect.

About a year ago, Bell TV required customers who wanted TSN HD to purchase Sports 1 theme pack in SD as well as HD Sports theme pack (8$+5$).

If you did not want HD Sports theme pack, I think you could choose TSN HD as a Pick and Pay option for 2.50$, but you still needed Sports 1 theme pack in SD (8$+2.50$).

I believe it was the same story for Rogers Sportsnet in HD (required you to have the SD channel).

Can someone confirm if this is still the case?

If a customer removes their SD sports channels, will they still get them in HD if they have the HD sports theme packs?

They're part of an HD Theme Pack, and are likely just in Free Preview to those that aren't already subscribers.

We've been over this before. If it does not show up in red under "all channels" it means that you cannot subscribe to the channel individually, you must get it as part of a theme pack.

I have decreased it already , yesterday I cancelled the HD pack . I will save $10 and still have plenty of free HD channels .

I don't like price increases same as the next guy , but realistically you can't expect BEV adding more HD channels and not increasing prices. At least now we have a choice , and don't have to pay for HD pack to get more HD channels.

I wonder if the people who made up the new packages were aware of this. It's indicative of very bad thinking on the part of someone at EV. The packages are getting more disorganized and illogical all the time because someone wants to squeeze as much money as possible out of them. Rather than add new channels into existing packages that make sense, EV wants to make more money from the new channels. I can see that but creating such convoluted dependencies that make people pay more for less is just going to drive customers away. Maybe fewer packages priced by value would make more sense.

Well, if you are already on the HD pack today, then why do you worry? Its for new customers going to HD. Secondly, all that a new customer misses out is one of the HD theme packs (so Equator, Treasure Oasis) for example. And if you take the rest 4 HD themes, you are at $10 which is the same as before...so the difference really is 3 channels that new customers dont get and if they really want them, sub out of another theme. I am ok with the $10 hd pack.

i can see hbo in red but do not sub to the movie channels so does that i mean i can sub to hbo individually?

Yes and to get the three channels you purchase in HD sports pack1(WGN,TSN,RAPTORS) you first have to purchase SD sports pack 1 and 2

I had the same problem, I just got HD and tried to order the HD pack (Apr5)..but it wouldn't work. I went to try again the next day, and found the new packaging and since I don't have SD sports, I couldn't get the 4/$10. I thought it would be a good deal to order sports 1 just to get WGN for $10. Now I would have to pay $15 to get all 3 non-sports or switch 1 of my themes to sports to get the deal, I agree--what a rip off! I thought of complaining, but I'm a true Canadian and couldn't be bothered! Probably not applicable for this thread, but I think I should be able to pay for HD TSN without also paying for SD TSN, since I would only watch the HD version anyway.

The free preview for NatG and Showcase end this Fall. I'm betting that a switch to the new HD packages will be required in order to get them. That's the way Bell always does things. They force a change by eliminating options for reception of new stations. They did it when they introduced the new SD package system. They did it when they created the new HD package to replace the old HD Nets package. Each time I got hit with a significant increase and had to make a choice between getting some new channels, losing some other channels and paying significantly more for essentially the same or a reduced service.

For those who do not receive or have not yet received the magazine there is a direct PDF link to the package information here:

I can see where this is going. EV is trying to double theme pack cost to HD subs and, eventually, all customers. Think you can get away with just $20 for theme packs? Think again. Pretty soon we will be paying $20 for HD themes and $20 for SD themes, minimum. There will be no option to drop SD themes with HD. Just want HD? Too bad, you must buy the SD theme pack to get the HD theme pack. This started with the SD package reorganization. (SD US Nets mandatory for everyone when they were previously free to HD Nets subs and tying Sportsnet HD/Raptors HD to the SD sports theme packs.) This is blatant consumer gouging if I ever saw it. The CRTC has ruled that channels can be sold unbundled but EV is moving in the opposite direction by implement tiered SD/HD bundling. All the while they are claiming this is better for consumers. I guess there are 3 kinds of liars... liars, damn liars and EV marketing liars.
