New Animation style vs. Traditional

Which appeals to you more, the old animation that was used from the dawn of animation until the early 2000s or the new flash-computer style animation? Traditional is my favorite, I love the cartoony-squash and small flaws in cartoons like Rocko and early SpongeBob. The new animation is brighter and more colorful, though. In some shows the animation seems limited (like Edgar and Ellen, for example, where the character movements are very limited). What do you think? Feel free to express all thoughts and opinions in this debate of old vs. new.
 
Traditional animation is my favorite.I liked the 3rd season of SB's animation the best and Rocko's...he had an animation change?It's only natural animation in shows change over time.

I can't begin to tell you how tired I am of these threads.
 
Aside from seasons 2-4 having slightly more angular designs (just look at Rocko's eyes to see this), the only change in Rocko's animation was season 4, when Rough Draft replaced Sunwoo as the overseas studio (and you can barely tell a difference, IMO).
 
The question (as it's being posed here) isn't really accurate, since there wasn't one single drawing and animation style which was employed by every single animation studio from the dawn of the animation industry to the year 2000. The '30's "out-of-the-inkwell' style was different from the theatrical "squash-and-stretch" style of Looney Tunes and MGM cartoons of the '40's, which differed from the "illusion of life" style that was prevalent in Disney features, which itself was vastly different from the 'limited animation' which was pioneered during the 60's and 70's on television mainly by Hanna-Barbera and Jay Ward.

Furthermore, each individual Nicktoon sported a unique look and drawing style of its' own, save for the ones which were done by the same studio (e.g. all of the Klasky-Csupo shows sported basically the same look).

That said, however, if the question being posed here is whether I prefer 'full' animation to Flash animation, I prefer full animation. Flash, IMHO, is best reserved for webtoons.
 
My thoughts exactly. Traditional hand drawn animation is a lot more pleasing to my eye because it doesn't have all those sharp bold outlines and bright colors that flash animation has. Flash animation does look more natural on the web than the TV. I prefer drawings that look more "rough".JMO though.

It depends. Sure, "full" animation is awesome and I love watching shows with it. Both Flash is confusing. Depending on who's doing it, it can look as good as "full" animation or exteremely bad. So both are equal I guess.
 
Some shows do flash because it adds to the show's style: Harvey Birdman Attorney at Law and Foster's. While others use it because it's cheaper and easier. When used wisely Flash animation can very pleasing but if done incorrectly, the characters might look like they had a sugar rush.
 
While I prefer full animation to Flash, I can deal with Flash just as long as it doesn't look too cheap. Animation Collective (Kappa Mikey, Leader Dog, Tortalinni Western, Ellen's Acres) is about as cheap looking as television animation should get, IMHO.
 
I prefer traditional animation. In traditional, everything flows and it looks great, but Flash has more stiff movements and limited expressions.
 
Since this is more of a general question about animation than anything specifically related to NickToons (even though SpongeBob and Edgar & Allen were mentioned in the first post), I've moved this to General Animation.
 
CGI is only annoying now because it's being done to death. Eventually, people will tire of CG animation and the filmmakers will back off of it. Then a few years down the line, someone will release a new CGI film and CG will suddenly be in vogue again.
 
Full animation. Why? Because whenever you see a cartoon character scream in a Full Animated Cel/Paint cartoon, it brings expression (a lot of expression), while Flash is like Starch: it doesn't really move. Like Camp Lazlo and Gym Partner, the animation is very unacceptable, so lifeless and boring, that makes me cry.

Chowder may be digital/flash, but it's hand drawn, and the designs and animation are excellent, so it's a win win.
 
Depends on your taste. I know it's fashionable to rag on these two shows, but I don't think either is all that bad. And the animation isn't lifeless and boring. I actually think - visually - My Gym Partner Is a Monkey isn't bad at all.
