New 007 - Daniel Craig

Road to Perdition was embarassing for all involved, but I agree that Craig was hardly the low point. Tom Hank's awful attempt at playing his usual character in that film made it awkward and completely ridiculous.

Slightly longer version of the one posted above:

Daniel Craig denies next James Bond rumours

Despite the best efforts of The Sun newspaper, actor Daniel Craig says he's not going to be the next James Bond 007, following a flurry of stories today claiming he had won the part.

A spokeswoman for the star of hit gangster movie "Layer Cake" denied the reports but wouldn't comment further - reports ThisIsLondon.

Eon Productions, which makes the Bond movies, also refused to comment.

This means that fellow British actor Clive Owen may still be in the running to take over from Pierce Brosnan. Other names mentioned to play the 007 role have included Eric Bana, Jude Law, Heath Ledger, Ewan McGregor, Dougray Scott and Australian Hugh Jackman.

The next James Bond movie, Casino Royale, is being directed by Martin Campbell, who first took the helm on Goldeneye in 1995. The Sun said today that Craig had been offered a three-film deal by producer Barbara Broccoli.

Mark Strong.

I've slept in his bed - though unfortunately not at the same time...

We had the same digs at Drama School!

He'd be superb also, but I fear not known well enough across the Pond...

Well now you've stated it twice it must be true. There was me, and many other people, thinking it was actually a damn good gangster film. How wrong we were.

Yes, you were wrong. It's poorly acted, the plot is ludicrously soppy for it's situation, and it just doesn't stand up against any decent.....gangster apparantly, movie.

Ewan McGregor .... ?????? Unfortunately, even though he's a tremendous actor, i think his connections with Star Wars are to the point where it would be odd to see him take up any Bond positions.

To be honest, i hope Daniel Craig doesn't sign. Someone said above, he looks nothing like the original Bond character, and it just seems he isn't the kind of person that would instantly suit the job as say, Brosnan, or Roger Moore or Connery did. I would still idealy like to see Brosnan retain the position, although if Daniel Craig is confirmed, i guess i'll still enjoy the films :-)

According to GMTV gossip, Daniel Craig has turned the part of 007 down, wanting no part of it.

As for those who have never heard of him, where have you been living? You have been missing the most beautiful blue eyes. :D

Ewan is supposed to have turned it down years ago or maybe just last year, flat out. He would make a good bond, and he's got the generic good looks that would appeal to most. The slimy Jude wants it though. I hope they never offer it to him. Daniel Craig - isn't he a bright ginger? I don't like the look of him anyway. Dougray might work. Isn't Clive Owen getting a bit long in the tooth? Some men start looking really ropey at about 50, so he'd probably only manage a couple of films before they had to change him again. I also hope it isn't that nasty Julian McMahon, there is something ever so slimy about him. I have nothing against Aussies though - Hugh Jackman would probably do a pretty good job.

Jude Law is surely too much of a pussy to be Bond.

Dougray Scott or Hugh Jackman for me, and although people dismiss it, I think the fella from Nip/Tuck (I forget his name) that was linked with it wouldn't be the worse choice. Right looks and there isn't a bad actor to be found anywhere in that show.

Julian McMahon would suck as Bond... I love Nip/Tuck but Julian is far to cheesy for Bond... Plus he sounRAB too American these days... ;)

Dougray Scott would be a great choice, although Daniel Craig or Clive Owen wouldn't be bad either. :)
