10/10

In The Aeroplane Over The Sea is a terrifying, exhilarating and profound montage, transporting us through various scenes of a tortured childhood using nostalgia, memory and dreams. That is the overarching theme that ties this album together, the loss of innocence through external forces. The title is apt, because this album definitely flies, though it

I've been in situations where I assume one should cry. I've been frustrated to the point where my eyes water, but I haven't cried since I was god knows how young. I CAN cry, but by no effort of my own, I just don't cry.

Mmmhmm, good point. I read another review on this where they talk about the line:

How Id push my fingers through your mouth
To make those muscles move
And make your voice so smooth and sweet

And how its a metaphor for turning the pages of the book to hear Annes voice. Thats why I love this album so much, Ive never heard another album with lyrics so rich that I constantly hear new interpretations that are not only all wonderful, but all add something else. I could argue that this is the most lyrically well-written album of all-time (although Dylan fans would lynch me).

And, excellent review, I really enjoy your song by song interpretation, especially that bit about carrot flower seeRAB being contraceptives, I never knew that.

Well of course you can't make yourself cry on command, I was talking about it physically. I thought along the lines of your whole family was killed in a freak fishing accident and you still couldn't cry. That would be weird. Some people don't show their emotions as much as others. :D

Bravo, fantastic review. No other album has shaped my musical background more than this one. It truly is an all time great, no matter how cool it is to like it.

I swallowed a little bit of sick. Not because of the review (well written), just the choice.

I think a lot of us have had our quota of In The Aeroplane Over The Sea.

Very nice review. This album album was one of those albums that played a large role in shaping my taste in music. I was one of the albums that made me start listening to "indie" music.

I never thought it would be, but this is quite possibly my favourite album of all time as well. I used to not even like it much. Even now, it's not the style of music I really care much for generally - but this album is just special. The lyrics and Jeff's voice - it's unreal. I could listen to this album on repeat forever.

That was a fantastic review. The album makes much more sense now, and it feels, now more than ever, like the concept album I'm sure it's meant to be. You will only "get the fuss" if you get to feel the album. It doesn't happen to everyone. It has to hit you, at some point in your life, for you to get it and love it to death. Otherwise it's just pretty cool, I guess.

I have listened to NMH for a few weeks now and every song blows me away. I had a few songs from this album and bought the whole CD yesterday. I listened to it twice already and it is just so freaking sweet.
