Hello everyone.....

Has anyone gotten relief taking Neurontin for sciatica pain?

I've been diagnosed with fairly significant stenosis and arthritis and have done PT (altho slacked off), had one ESI (going for another), taken Motrin 800 mg., Celebrex....nothing's helped. In fact, the pain is constant now...whereas previously, the leg pain and nurabness would start after walking any sort of distance.

After having had 2 hip replacements and a colon-resection within the last 5 years, I so want to avoid surgery.

I'm an active 62 year old who works full-time and am so dang frustrated. Two brand spanking new hips and I still can't bear weight/walk/stand without incredible pain. Very frustrating.....

Any input is greatly,
Linda

Hi, Linda; I take Neurontin for arthritic pain in nearly all of my joints, but I need to take 400 mg to get any degree of relief and that relief is short lived. I've been on Celebrex for a couple of years and feel it does little; Voltaren worked better.

I started on the Neurontin over a year ago after having a fusion of L2, L3, L4, L5, and S1.

I'm a little older than you are and know how you feel about surgeries, having had many myself.

Are these the Golden Years?

The Golden Years? Ha!! Whoever coined that phrase was blessed with good health and no aches and pains!

Thanks for the input. I see my Pain Management group for another injection soon and think I will consult with them re: meRAB. Have to run it by my ortho doc first.

Much good luck to you,
Linda

Just for information, the dosage range is from 300-3600mg. As far as I've read and have been told, most people who take it for pain use more than 600mg. I was taking 400mg and my PM doc highly suggested raising it. I went up to 2400mg but it made me nauseous and didn't seem to help. But don't let that discourage you. That amount of nausea isn't the norm and it does help many people for nerve pain.

My mother, who is 70, has taken Neurontin for sciatica pain & had great results. It did take about a month of increasing her dose to where she finally had relief (which was 300mg three times a day), then was on it for about 2 more months. She now is taking 300mg at night, and 100mg in the morning & early afternoon. So far, no more sciatica pain!

I was on this drug for an entire year. Unfortunately, it did not do much for my pain. It did make me very tired at first, but eventually that went away. I was taking 2400mg a day. I have very bad nerve damage and have tried several of these type of medications (Neurontin, Lyrica, Topomax) but none seem to touch my pain. But, others have had great success, so you mine as well give it a shot. I do have to warn you...the nickname of this drug is "Moron-tin". You tend to forget things....especially during conversations. It's like you are are talking and then you forget a word. It's weird. But if it helps your pain, then I would rather be a little forgetful with less pain!

Best of luck!
