Neurology..Help?

About 8 months ago I was given about a whole bottle of Delsym. It was poured into my drink without my knowing. I got a terrible headache and eventually passed out. The next day, I experienced many vision problems. Whenever I look at lights, they are very hazy and look like "starburst lights" and they have a glare to them. My regular vision is fine, just lights are terrible. Oncoming headlights and stoplights are completely hazy and I can't stand it. I went to my eye doctor and they said nothing is wrong. But obviously something is wrong. I also have a constant ringing in my ears and I have since 8 months ago. And lastly I have many muscle spams all over my body. It's nothing huge they're just like little muscle twitches, but they occur a lot and it's very annoying.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what is wrong with me/what I should do?

Any answers appreciated,
Thanks.

hi madeline0168, welcome My name is Judi the only suggestion I can come up with may not be of value to you but any way maybe You can get in touch with a local Pathology service with the referal from your GP and find out if the ingredients of delsym has long term side effects that are causing you problems.
Perhaps if you have more written material about this it would help?.

Goodluck and all the very Best.

The active ingredient in Delsym is DXM, dextromethorphan. It's used as a cough medicine, but it also has strong psychotropic effects at high doses. This is why some kids use Robitussin/Delsym for the heck of it--to get a weird "high." The effects at a high dose are hallucinogen-like, but can also be very unpleasant. It should also be noted that if you were taking any other drug at the time (are you/were you on some kind of medication?), it could have magnified the effects of DXM, and vice versa, resulting in worse side effects.

Occasionally hallucinogen-type drugs, especially when taken in high doses (I would consider a whole bottle of Delsym a high dose, but that's just my opinion), can have longterm side effects. I've heard of cases where the effects last a while but eventually they go away.

In any case, I really couldn't tell you what your problem is. I think your best bet is to see a neurologist or a psychiatrist about this, and see what they think.
