First off. I am 16 years old, I turn 17 December 27th. I am a female, and besides the symptoms, I think I am pretty healthy. I weigh 130 lbs, the last I checked. No known diseases so far. I have been diagnosed with MDD, ADD, OCD, and ODD. My grandparents have raised me since I was 12, because my mother was a meth addict and alcoholic in and out of prison during that time. She got out of prison when I was 12, is clean and sober. I lived with her about a year and a half, but we don't get along well, and I was sent to live with my father in Burns, Oregon. I was there for three years, I would visit here (Idaho) during the summers. I recently moved back from Oregon in April of 2009. My father was very psychologically abusive with me, and was starting to get physical, as he had done with my mother. We lived on a farm on 80 acres of land. We had a lot of horses, some cows, and some other animals. Now I am back in Idaho living with my mother. I do home school, and it can be very stressful at times, along with me and my mother, we don't get along easily. I do have good grades in my school though. I am taking all core classes (2 english, 2 government, and geometry) because I am expected to graduate early, since I am already ahead in school. I was always very good in school, and have never failed a class.
I am currently on probation for possession of drug paraphernalia. I get off probation February 2010. So I do have a past with some drug use. I started smoking marijuana December 2008 up until August 2009. It wasn't frequent, but it was more than just a couple times a month. It really just depended on things. I also occasionally would drink, but not often. I've only been drunk probably 4 or 5 times before.
I've had a bunch of problems with my body, long term, and just lately. They are usually over looked, but now im starting to think that possibly there really could be something serious going on. These things are really starting to become a pain in the...
Im not sure if these symptoms are related, who knows, maybe I have a bunch of different problems going on. But these things are all the ones that I am worried about, or I think possibly could have a connection to what could be happening.
I also put when I first started getting these symptoms, and unless stated otherwise, I still have them.
Numbness:
-crease of arm and end of hands fall asleep when arm is bent, especially when Im leaning on the arm. Occasionally it will feel numb, even when not bent. Or even now, at a 90 degree angle, I can feel my left arm going numb.
Has been occurring off an on since Feb-March 2009
-certain elbow placement causes it to go numb. The outside of my elbow, the bone that sticks out. If I lean on that on a hard surface, it will quickly go numb.
Off and on Feb-March 09
-tingling, constricting sensation in crease of arms and legs, usually when bent. Sometimes when they aren't bent. Sometimes with tight pants I will get the same feeling in legs. Also, if I rest one leg over the other, the crease will go numb, and my foot will fall asleep. I usually notice it more in my left leg than right.
Off and on Feb-March 09
-My hands and my feet are almost ALWAYS freezing cold.
This started happening in the beginning of 2009. I believe Feb-March.
Vision & Migraines
-decrease of vision. I believe I am nearsighted. My mother is, my sister is as well. I do believe my sister started needing glasses around my age, 16-17. Not sure on mother. It seems like its getting worse though.
Mid November 2009
-I get ocular migraines. Also known as a migraine aura. What it is, is a zig zag like pattern, that flashes (for me black and yellowish) and impairs vision. I don't believe a doctor has really straight up told me that he is sure that is what it is. Its really my own research concluding it. No tests have been done on me to see if thats what it is.
I've had these since 2000 maybe?
-Pain after an ocular migraine only occurs 40% or less of the time. I usually just get the ocular migraine. This has only happened since maybe 2006. Before 2006, I would usually get an ocular migraine, and then it would be followed by pain. I take Imitrex for my migraines, that could be why I don't get the pain after, but Im not sure. The Imitrex really makes me sick to my stomach though. Also, I have had migraines ever since I can remember. Like I said, the first Ocular migraine I had was probably in 2000. My grandmother gets bad migraines as well, but I am not sure of anybody else in my family with chronic migraines like myself and her.
-I get 'floaters', or should I say, I see them. Its almost like the ocular migraine. A little flashing dot that runs across my vision, I can sometimes follow it. It will be there anywhere from one second, to five seconds.
I got these very seldomly since probably 2005. What is weird now, is I usually will see a floater the day, or a couple days, before I get a migraine. I had a migraine earlier today, and yesterday I saw a floater for probably 4 seconds.
-Sometime in 2008, I concluded that caffeine, or way to much sugar, will trigger my migraines. I try to not consume as much caffeine now. I don't drink caffeine sodas or energy drinks, or drink tea. In 2008, when I stopped the caffeine, my migraines GREATLY reduced, and I would usually only get, at most, one migraine a month. This was November 2008. Lately I've been getting them a lot more though. Who knows, I could be eating a food with caffeine in it and not know. Or it could be stress.
-With a migraine, I get a tingling in my mouth, up to my nose, the inner corner of my eyes, behind my eyes, and my sinuses. It intensifies greatly w/ food, a beverage, or any object in my mouth. Swallowing will also make this feeling more apparent. Even touching the top of my mouth with my tounge will make this happen. When it intensifies, I mean every part that was affected before. My nose, sinuses, and eyes all get really tingly. It's hard to explain. Before, it would only usually happen after a migraine. Now its during a migraine, and after, but after its not usually nearly as bad.
This would seldomly happen w/ migraines late 2008, and now its worse and more apparent.
-Skin aches with a migraine. Usually my face and neck. To the touch it feels sore, almost like its been rubbed on a lot.
Late 08 or early 2009
-After a migraine, my head will be 'sore' If I bend over too fast, or shake me head or turn it too fast, it will hurt. I will also sometimes get dizzy from it.
-Talking a lot, listening to people talking for a long time, arguing (stress?) causes headaches. Not migraines, just headaches. Also, like when I am working, it gives me a headache, because the store is big, and spacious, and since I can't see very well now, I think that gives me a headache. It is either that, or the bright light. Its usually a headache in my forehead and around eyes and sinuses. Like a pressure.
The stress, talking, arguing headache started probably early 2008 when I was living with my dad. He would get mad a lot and fight with me, and I would end up crying and things, that would trigger a headache. I think thats why anything so much as arguing or talking a lot makes me get them. The headache from vision just recently started, probably early December 2009.
-I am not sure if this has to do with migraines or not. I always hear this 'clicking' sound, I believe in my right ear. Almost like, say you are wearing dangly metal/silver/hard earrings. They click together, or possibly another earring if you have your ear pierced more than once. That is what it sounds like. I have actually thought it was that, but then I would hold my earrings so they couldn't rattle, move my head a little bit, and still hear it. I have had surgery on my right ear when I was very young. They had to put tubes in my ear or something like that. I would always wonder if they left a utensil in there or something, you know, like those bad surgery stories. But I really don't think that's the issue. Oh okay, it sounds like clicking the mouse. When you go to click on something, it's almost like that clicking noise, but kind of shorter, and not as high pitched.. I guess a more dull clicking, if that makes since.
Ive had this off and on for many years, not really sure when I first noticed it. Like right now, if I shake my head I can't hear it. But there will be times when it's almost just plain annoying because it will happen with the slightest movement.
-One time, and the only time this has ever happened, I completely lost vision in my left eye. I was watching "Shallow Hal" when I was in Oregon, this was sometime Fall 2008. My left eye had this little grey dot. Almost like the start of an ocular migraine, except it was just a flat grey. It got bigger and bigger and bigger, I started kinda freaking out, and ran to the bathroom to see if there was anything noticeable in my eye. I can't remember exactly how much it covered, if not the whole vision in my left eye. I do know that it was a lot though. It stayed like that for maybe a minute, from the starting dot to the whole vision. I don't think it all went away at once either. It slowly shrunk down in size then disappeared.
Mind and Psychological Things:
-Trouble getting to sleep at night. I could be dog tired, but not be able to sleep. I think I have insomnia. I take two 3mg melatonin pills every night. It's a natural sleep aid, a natural chemical/supplement in our body. Taking the pills encourages sleep.
-Off and on I have terrible nightmares. Usually, it is me, back in Burns, living with my dad. Sometimes bad things happen with him, like him getting mad, other times its just me being there. Nothing bad happening, but I wake up scared, in a sense. Not scared as in, somebody is gonna get me in the dark though. I guess just a very uncomfortable dream, sometimes It makes me want to cry, sometimes it worries me. I do sometimes have other nightmares, I can think of now, one about my two nieces being hunted down or something, and another about a killer guy hunting me down, and I woke up scared, thinking there was somebody in my house. I figured this was significant, because I usually don't have nightmares at all. I can't even remember the last time I had a nightmare before these ones started.
They started maybe mid or late September. Ill start to get them, and have a bunch clustered for about a week and a half, and then they will stop. Two, three, or four weeks later, it will happen again. I read that nightmares like this are symptoms of PTSD. Also, my next symptom is a symptom of PTSD. But im no doctor.
-Out of body experiences. A detachment feeling. Basically, almost like im not connected to my body. Usually it's my arms. Its a very weird experience, Im not sure how to really explain it.
The first time this happened, I was in Oregon, it was shortly after one of my dad's long yelling abusive rants. So, late 2008 I want to say. Maybe Early 2009. I don't get them often, but I do get them, it's very weird.
-I can't remember hardly anything. I have to write a To Do list so I get everything done. I usually always forget any appointments I have, school assignments, and dates. Dates as in time frames. It's very hard for me to remember the times and months all these things have occurred, and very easily I get them mixed up. I was talking to my mother about things that happened, between August and now, and was completely incorrect about the time frames and time spans on which things happened. Also, I will say something, and minutes later not remember saying it. I jokingly say "the pot is catching up" because marijuana leads to short term memory loss, but I don't think thats the case. I haven't smoked any pot since August, 4 months ago.
I just recently started experiencing this maybe in October?
-I can't spell well anymore either. I usually am very good at typing, and great at spelling things, but for instance I tried writing "dude" and unintentionally typed "dood" or I usually am very good at the "same sounding words, different spelling" I was thinking of the word "write" and typed "right" this is very unusual for me.
Started August 2009
-I am very irritable. There reasons above could be why, but I am not really sure. I figured I should write this down. Pretty much, I want attention, like from my mother, but when I get it, I don't like it. Which makes her, and other people (not usually friends) not want to talk to me or keep me company, because I get annoyed in a sense, and don't want anything to do with them. I am sorta a loner, I would usually prefer to be alone, and I usually am alone. I just don't like people. Since April 09. Now, since mid November, I don't really talk to anybody, none of my friends or anything. It could be because I don't have my phone anymore. But when I did have it, I usually wouldn't text anybody anymore, or reply to text messages. The only way I stay in touch is through MySpace, and I barely use that anymore.
April 2009
-I don't seem to care about people so much anymore. People I don't know, like on the internet, I easily will insult without feeling bad about doing it. Not like me either, I really am a nice person.
December 09
-I have not noticed any decrease in grades, despite everything. My grades are actually still continuing to rise.
Physical and Visible Things:
-I bruise VERY easily. Sometime in September 09, I had over 50 random mystery bruises on my body. Soon they went away and I didn't have the problem. Up until about three weeks ago. My mother was doing a tattoo on me (please no parenting comments about this) on the side of my leg. A T-REX. She was coloring it more, it needs multiple sessions, its pretty big. Well, my green T-REX, in a matter of 2 or 3 minutes after working on one spot, was a purple dinosaur. If anybody reading this knows how tattoos are, this amount of bruising, in this amount of time, is defiantly not right. Instead of needle punctures, it looked like someone had beat my leg in the places we were tattooing. (not the artist either, my mom has been doing tattoos for 5 years now) I have 4 tattoos right now, and this is the first time bruising that bad has happened. We ended up stopping the tattooing. I am currently trying to drink more water to try again. We have ideas that dehydration made my skin do that.
I believe the first time I noticed I had been bruising easily though was probably March of 2009
-Spider veins. I believe that is what they are called. Well I have noticed a lot more than usual. I have several on my hands and knuckles, and some on my face. I usually don't get them, and from my knowledge, they are ruptured blood vessels?
December 2009
-Since about 2006, Ive had a very bad back. I think my dad contributed to this. Since we lived on a farm, my step sister and I (I was 13 she was 11) had to go out, all the time, and muck horse stalls. This is a lot of hard, heavy, tiring work, and we had many stalls. We did it in the summer when I was there, and in -20 degree weather at night when we got home from school. Well, we had to wheelbarrow the horse crap and straw out about half an acre to the compost pile and dump it. This really killed my back, and ever since, I get bad back aches. If I bend over for a long time and strain my back, its really painful when I straighten back up again. Its usually along my spinal chord where it aches, and then further down its my whole lower back that is sore. I think its the muscles.
Started Oct. 2006
-My left knee has problems as well. When I bend it, lean on it, and put weight on it, it hurts. Like going up stairs, it really strains it and is uncomfortable.
This started probably late 2007 or possibly in 2008. Not sure really.
-My hip pops all the time. I think usually my right side if I can recall very well, but who knows. When I am laying down a lot, I will be in a bad position I guess, and I have to move it and it pops, and then it can lay right.
2007 or 2008
-I feel almost clumsy. At least I am a lot more than I used to be. Could it just be age? I run into things a lot, or loose my balance or footing and stumble off track to wherever Im going.
Off and on early 2009
-I have an increased appetite as well. If I eat something, even a decent meal. Pork chop, green beans, stuffing. I wont still be hungry right after, but within an hour or two I am usually hungry again. Sometimes I can feel that my stomach is full, but I also feel hungry. Could it just mean that I am thirsty? I read that somewhere. So, I am always hungry pretty much.
From probably January 2009-late May 2009, I would have very bad stomach pains, and I would never want to eat, the thought of it made me sick. I went to a doctor, and they didn't know what it was. When I did eat though, i realized that I was almost starving, and very hungry. I soon would get my appetite back, but it was very very small. I didn't have to eat a lot to be content.
These are really all the things I can think of currently that are wrong with me. They really do make my life dysfunctional in one way or another. I do have a doctor appointment for my eyes on January 4th, which is a good thing. I will probably tell them about the vision things. But if you have any clue on what any of these things could be a symptom of, please please let me know. Its almost impossible to get to a doctor for me, I have old medicade, but once that no longer qualifies, Im done with doctor appointments. My mom doesnt seem to feel the need to apply for medicade, or she is just lazy. Im not sure.
I am currently on probation for possession of drug paraphernalia. I get off probation February 2010. So I do have a past with some drug use.
