i ended up having to have whats called an ACDF(anterior cervical decompression fusion) done. it is basically a matter of removing the herniated disc itself and replacing it with either a donor plug piece of bone or you can also use your own(they take a hip bone graft from your own hip). then those two vertebraes eventually join together or "fuse".
