Neurological Exam - Questions

I had an upper NCV last week and these are my results...

Dermatomal Somatosensory Evoked Potentials:
Right C6 is slowed

Nerve Conduction Study: Compound Muscle Action Potentials:
Motor - right medin distal latency is borderline slowed
Right ulnar/elbow/wrist and above/below elbow segments are slowed
F waves - within normal limits

Nerve conduction study - Sensory nerve action potentials:
Right median palmar is borderline slowed

Any one know what this means? I do not have my follow up appointment until next week.

Thanks!

i take it you just had this EMG/NCS? have you actually had an MRI of your c spine too at this point? "something' is causing some level of impedded nerve flow, that is usually up from the c spine area if this was done all the way up your arm as it appears to have been? what about your left? did they test anything on that side, and if they did,was there anything abnormal there too? from what i can tell, your c6, which also IS your median nerve, probably has a herniation or bone spur or 'something' that is actually pushed against that c 6 nerve up in your c spine and slowing nerve flow response.

there would also be something affecting your ulnar(c 8 nerve,it innervates the last two fingers of the hand), and the median is enough affected to also go across the palmer side of your hand. just what are you actually 'feeling" in the last two fingers and the middle or in your thumb, and across that palm? any fingers that kind of 'lock up" on you or go into some level of spasms at times?numbness, tingling, pain?

if you have not yet had an MRI, like i mentioned above, you defiitely NEED one to just see what is causing the nerve flow impairment. if the nerves are not getting enough flow,it will also affect the muscles there too to a certain degree. you just need that good hard look into your c and upper t spine areas right now to see whats going on. using a contrasting agent will also help in identifying certain things that do not always show themselves well upon plain MRI. who or what type of specialist are you going to be seeing? you really DO need a good neurosurgeon for a full eval and consult about how to fix whatever is impacting those nerves. a neurologist would only send you to that NS,since it is way over his head to try and repair this. i do wish you luck with this. i do know how you feel since i went thru this stuff back in 2001(c 6-7 herniation). please keep me posted as to what you find out. Thanks so much for your reply.
I have only had an upper and lower NCV. They did left and right so on the upper there was no issues indicated on the left.

I received my lower results yesterday as follows:

Dermatomal Somatosensory Evoked Potentials:
L4 is significantly slower than right

Nerve Conduction Study:Compound Muscle Action Potentials
H reflexes - right is slowed

All other results are within normal limits.

My concern is could I have MS. I have several other symptoms such as vertigo and balance issues. I do not have a neurologist appointment yet as these tests were ordered by my general practioner. My followup appt with him is tomorrow.

Thanks

the best thing for you do get done right now,and hopefully this doc will do this for you,is getting a FULL spinal MRI. you appear to have both upper and lower symptoms. it IS quite possible that you just happen to have bulges or some other normal finding that can create impaired nerve flow. i would think if this were MS releated, you would have alot more issues than just two specific levels of latency, you know what i mean? have they MRIed your brain to check for lesions? this just actually sounds like much more of a spinal issue type of thing to me anyways.please keep me posted as to what you find out. good luck, FB
