anyone else ever notice that on your T-Mo pearl you can sometimes get cigular service?

i was out on lake shasta this past week and every now and then in the middle of the lake i could get full service including EDGE. but when i looked under my time it said cingular (odd). now i know they run on the same bands but does that mean that i am roaming and going to get outrageous service charges? or can you hop from one to another without worry?

thanks in advance for your helping of this BooB

You need to contact customer care, or let other members here know what plan you are on, so they can determine if you have roaming for free or not. I dont know the plans otherwise I would assist.

I was told this weekend by T-mobile that if there's a roaming agreement with another cell's tower (such as Cingular), you will automatically switch to that tower. Meaning that if there's no T-mo coverage and you're in another area that has an agreement, you'll be able to use that without roaming. Unless you have the "local" plan, there's no roaming charges with T-mo anyways. The rep also mentioned that they have some roaming agreements with Alltel and Unicel along with Cingular.

if your on an automatic selection for your network, you already have free roaming with any company that will allow your connection. If you dont have roaming it wont let you roam off of other companys GSM towers. So if you were out on the lake and you got cingular service, you have free roaming, if you want that to stop just because cingulars internet connection is a little bit slower, not that that makes a difference, but just because you want you you can go to OPTIONS menu and then select NETWORK, go to network selection type and put in MANUAL, then scan for available networks and from there you will be able to select which network to use, or you can leave it on TMO and make it not select automatically.

So you need to wait and and let it keep searching. When it finds another network which it may not you select it or forget about it because there isn't another network within your area that will transfer your connection

I'm with AT&T, and my Pearl does not have the option to change how the network is selected. I'm pretty sure that I've never had that option available to me.
