nerve pain

I am actually trying to find out info for my sister she dosen't have internet and I thought maybe someone has gone thru the same or very similar and could help.
she is 29 years old and has had a nerve problem her whole life. when she was born her shoulder got caught on our mom's bone and messed up her nerves in her shoulder. she can't raise her arm any higher than her chest area, she can't rotate her arm or wrist and she has always had pain shooting down her arm and numbness in her hand too.
she has just lived withthis for 29 years but the last 3 or 4 years it has been getting worse. Not sure if these symtoms have anything to do with each other but this last year she has been experiencing:
numbness in both hands and feet, extreme pain in both arms and thighs, swelling all over her arms and legs, hair loss(in the last 4 years quite a bit), memory problems (she would go to the kitchen and kind of wake up and not realize how she got there. or she would just stop talking in the middle of a sentence thinking she finished it already but then forget that we were even talking at all)
she has no insurance but she finally went to the doctor and he did a nerve test. It said she has an extreme case of carpal tunnel. thing is she doesn't work and has no real hobbies that make her do repetitive movements and that sure doesn't explain all her symptoms. she has an appointment with a specialist in 2 weeks but I was hoping some one had a clue what this could be.
any thoughts?
 
Her shoulder problems might have led to early osteoarthritis, which in turn is leading to even further nerve damage.

The symptoms of the last year, (swelling, numbness, pain, hair loss, brain fog) may or may not be unrelated to the nerve damage/osteo.

The symptoms you describe could be from any number of different disorders. Maybe endocrine, like hypothyroid? Or autoimmune. Do any autoimmune disorders run in your family? (rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, celiac, etc)

no we don't have a family history of any of those.
we had thought it could be lupus but a lot of the symptoms she doesn't have (like no breathing, vision, dry mouth or seizure problems) but the other symptoms kinda fit.
We are just at a loss. hopefully the specialist will be able to tell us more but because of not having insurance she won't be able to take tons of tests. She just can't afford it.
 
Good luck, I'm sure the doc will be able to give you and your sister some anwsers.

Many endocrine and autoimmune disorders can be detected with simple and inexpensive blood tests. :wave:
