So i have this annoying pain that happens when I walk for a long distance. I am not sure what it is but I am putting it under back pain in case it is a pinched nerve stemming from there, I dont know.

In any case, if i walk for a long time (over an hour lets say) i begin to feel a somewhat sharp pain along the outside of my thigh - but on the inside. It stems from near my hip and pelvis area (a bit below it) and goes to somewhere above the knee area. It hurts when I walk at that point and just gets worse until I rest it at least overnight, sometimes more like 24-48 hours depending how much more walking i do once it begins. interestingly, i have played tennis for 2.5 hrs and get no pain, it seems it is only when i walk. ive thought that it is possible that it happens if i am somehow misaligned - perhaps carrying a purse does this? I am in my mid 20s in good health and i am thin. Any advice on what this might be? to me it feels like it would be nerve pain but i dont really know. I say that because it is definitely not like a pulled muscle or something. Thanks!

I have the same symptoms in my left leg and now I have it in the right leg. I would stand or walk around and all of a sudden, BOOM: my legs have given out and I am on the floor. My MRI showed disc herniation and paracentral (both sides) protrusion and desiccation (dehydration) on L5-S1. I have nerve damage in both legs and will have a lurabar fusion, discectomy and decompression surgery on 12/09/09. My neurosurgeon does not want to put it off because he does not want the nerve damage to become permanent. I'm 34 yrs old with a baby and a pre-teen. I would suggest you really go and see a doctor about this and maybe get an MRI. It could just be sciatica, you never know. My problems crept up on me slowly over 5 years. I used to have a job that required a lot of sitting for long perioRAB of time. Hope this helps.

I have perm nerve damage on my right leg from ALIF surgery. I had no nerve pain whatsoever prior to surgery. For a whole year the doctors told me the nerves were just irriated and would calm down, HAH! They never calmed down, its perm. I don't really know what flares up those nerves, I have some totally nurab areas on the outside of that leg (thigh area) where if I run hand along it I can't really feel much (weird). When that nerve gets going its pain like I have never felt before and it does not matter what I take or what I do, nothing seems to touch it. I cannot walk long distances, I know for a fact that is one thing that will flare up that nerve and keep it that way for days.
I don't know what type of advice to give you, mine also seems to hurt these days along with the disc, it runs from the buttocks area right into the leg.
Sciatic I suppose. I just wish I would have known all of this nerve damage/irriation stuff prior to back surgery. My surgery was not successful. I never did fully fuse.
