Neon Genesis Evangelion question (spoilers)

After viewing the finale and the alternate ending movie I have a question.
On the last episode Shinji mentions that there are different versions of him or something along that line. My question is was the alt. ending movie cocurrent in a different deminsion or is it in a second countinity or does it happen after Shinji finRAB value in life? This bothered me all day at school help.....please
 
Shinji goes berserk. He starts Third Impact. During Impact, episode 25-26 happens and he sees a possible alternate path (Asuka his Childhood Friend, Rei...happy, etc.). He rejects it, and thus everyone is orange goo. The "Alternate ending movie" IS the canon ending.
 
Well, Anno says that he wants this ending, as well as the rest of the movie series, to...um..."make sense." And considering the plot changes that are about to take place in the 2nd movie, we're gonna just have to go with it. I'm assuming that this will be another alternate ending unless Anno says otherwise.

(Personally, I like that "Re-Take" doujin's ending more than any of them since it was insanely good, was incredibly well-written for a doujinshi, and had a complete, conclusive ending that manages to make sense. Yeah, I know, it's just a doujinshi and all but I'm not kidding. It's freaking amazing)

There's some speculation that Rebuild occurs after the TV series because of that one scene at the beginning but I don't like thinking about this kind of stuff because it hurts my brain
 
The most subtle and important things that happened in Rebuild 1.0:
-Misato introduces the Angel in Central Dogma as Lilith.
-The Fourth (fifth) tentacle Angel melted, therefore there was no core to examine and send to America, therefore no explosion to engluf Eva Unit 04. Thus, unit 04 and the pony-tailed girl with glasses will appear in 2.0.
