Neon Genesis Evangelion, I r needing help D:

I agree, especially with the introduction of this new girl (with GLASSES hurfdurf).

It almost definitely won't happen, but how much of an epic rickroll would it be if after 2-3 films of fan-pandering, the finale was equally messed up ala End of Eva?

Has anyone seen "End Of Evangelion"?

If you have can you explain to me why at the end of the movie auska says

How Disgusting.

It does'nt make any sense..

it's like a giant puzzle that is missing pieces to it..

I dunno, but I mean, after all this Anno returned to Evangelion and is making a bunch of new big budget movies. So he clearly doesn't hate the fanbase as much as you believe.

Honestly, I'd be disappointed if it wasn't!

Anyway...

End of Evangelion actually has a very straightforward plot in terms of what is actually happening on screen, most of the arabiguity really comes from what the characters are thinking and feeling at any given point in time. (And, of course, the final scene.)

Compare this to one of David Lynch's Eraserhead and Mulholland Dr., or the final episode of The Prisoner, where the character moments are pretty straightforward, but a lot of the plot elements in them are completely nonsensical and literally pulled from thin air. (Completely intentional and part of their appeal, of course.)

For example, one of the necessary elements of episode 25 is that via the Ritsuko and Misato conversation we're given a good introduction to the Human Instrumentality Project before we see the film. The pieces are all there from the previous episodes so we can connect the dots.

EDIT: To answer your question Yusuke:

While I'm no expert on the Japanese language, I've often seen the term "kimochi warui" translated as "I feel sick/terrible". The translation of "how disgusting" sort of removes the significance of the line from Asuka to Shinji. (Implying that it's the sea or Shinji himself that's "disgusting".) Now, that implication would still be there in the DVD version, but what's lost in translation, I think, is the deliberate sense of Asuka-esque humour that was intended here.

It's pretty morbidly humorous when you think of it. She was sliced apart by an Eva, was being strangled by Shinji, might have been aware of Shinji in the hospital scene for all we know, woke up to a dark new world with a red sea, and had to put up with Shinji having a hissy-fit in the final scene. Who wouldn't be feeling so terrible!

Look I know how much you guys people love your deep personal questions and year-long debates over the possibilites of an ending of a popular series but the thing is, I just want an ending! I mean, is it really hard to just have something that answers everything? Is it that impossible to just have an end that makes sense?

Hint: Right hand.

There is the theory that:

Rebuild Spoilers
Rebuild is actually after Third Impact, replaying the same events. Big hints include EVA sketch before the first Angel fight, and Kaworu's "Third Child...again" among revealing Lilith AS Lilith and so early.

Anno intended something closer to the film version, but couldn't afford to (plus issues with the network), so they pieced the TV version together on the cheap.

The film version is pretty much what Anno intended, with a bitter tone due to death threats over how the TV series ended.

Newsflash, the ending of the series (hell, the second half of the show to a degree) pissed off so many militant otaku back in 1997 that Gainax got tons of hate mail, some death threats, and even Gainax studios got vandalized (graphitti on the front of their building).

Hell, right before a violent climax in End of Evangelion, Anno pur ina few flashed frames of some of the hatemail/death threats, and a pic of the graphitti.

Who wouldn't hate some of their fans for behaving like emotionally stunted man-children?

He intenRAB to MAKE THAT CASH MONEY DOLLAH BILL YALL.

Christ, who wouldn't jump at doing more of what is one of the cashest of cows in Japanese animation? He obviously hasn't had a hit since Eva. I'd be eager to go back to work on it to, emotional baggage or not.

No argument there.

Though it's not like Gainax wasn't going to do those films anyway, with or without him. He doesn't own the rights to Eva, he's just serving as Executive Producer.

What he's doing with Rebuild is certainly better than what Gundam usually does with their movies. The story certainly is going in a different take than the series with some major, major changes down the road.
