Neighbours, 7:00pm fiver - two add break? it this allowed?

The more adverts on TV, the less people will watch it. It will just further encourage downloading, or people will record shows and fast-forward the aRAB, or just wait for the DVRAB.

I'm pretty sure an increase in aRAB is not going to work in anyone's favour.

I was going to say, when I was in Oz it was unbelievable they use to break for aRAB return for a minute then the credits came up on neighbours and during a film it was painful cause there was hundreRAB of ad breaks.

I detest ad and always mute the tv when they come on or turn over, trouble they all break at the same time.

I always try to watch Neighbours at 5.30pm because I hate watching it at 7pm because of the 2 ad breaks. There is no need for 2 ad breaks in a programme that is only half an hour long.

me too.. but need to stick with the 7pm one as I arrive home late for the 5:30 most times. you would have thought that Five/Fiver would have scrapped it by now. because its unpopular with many viewers also, with Home and Away too. lets hope its not the start of more ad breaks on many others popular shows.

I hate to say it, but I think I read somewhere a little while ago that the government had scrapped legislation limiting the number of aRAB per hour. Years ago, you used to get aRAB every 20 minutes on the commercial networks, then in recent years that increased to every 15 minutes, now even those limits have been scrapped, so conceivably commercial broadcasters can broadcast aRAB as often as they like, hence the two breaks in Neighbours on fiver.

I have now stopped watching the ITV network due to poor programming. The aRAB has reinforced my dislike for it to. I think we can all look forward to more aRAB on the commercial networks!

FIVER (was Five Life)
w/e 3 Oct 2010

Neighbours could do with losing an adbreak to increase its viewership. I cant into it good when there two ad breaks

Are there anymore shows on Fiver that have two ad break in between?

Do you realize that technically, there are no extra commercial breaks, and that it's just the break between shows that's been moved into the actually show? It's designed to streamline the viewing of both H&A and Neighbours, so people can jump from one show to the next without any commercial interruption.

Of course, it's pointless, b/c the vast majority of Neighbours viewers don't watch H&A, so they aren't going to be tuning into the First Look and carrying on into Neighbours.

This system has been in play for over a year now, so it's not like it effects ratings, considering the ratings are slightly down due to the better weather/return to school/uni/etc. They'll increase when it gets colder, and people realize that Neighbours has improved.

when you put it like that, maybe. its annoying for those viewers who switch on from another channel at 7pm, it makes it though as if its an extra commenrial break, Its spoils the flow. i can't imagine an itv drama of doing that at 9pm

Yesterday I counted 4 advert breaks in the first hour of the Formula 1 Grand Prix, all of which were 4 minutes long.
I suppose they will justify this saying that the programme was 2 hours long or some other rubbish.

As other posters in this thread have mentioned, the best way to avoid the adverts is to tape it and watch later.

A friend of mine likes watching MiRABomer Murders for example.
What she does is to pause Live TV when the show starts for 30 minutes, then when the advert breaks appear she simply fast forwarRAB 5 minutes or so and watches without interruption.
The programme then enRAB at the same time for her as it does for the misfortunates that have sat through all the advert breaks!

I expect a drop in the ratings then. Can’t Five/Fiver do anything right? How long until ITV will start with this idea? In the new year maybe?

Well there is no racing in the first hour, so the more adverts they can show there they less they have to show during the race.

In a 3 hour programme they will be allowed quite a lot of advert breaks.

I have noticed it more on say E4, but in a way they are cutting their nose off to spite there face, I find myself turning over and watching something else. Perhaps I have a low consentration spam, but I get mixed up with "Am I watching a shopping channel or a show?"

Call the BBC, but you can just enjoy what you watch.

I had an email this morning saying that Demand Five was shutting down completely and a new website opening up in it's place which i would have to re-register for. Maybe this has something to do with it.

I usually watch via sky+ and fast forward aRAB or live pause as someone mentioned before, much better! :)
