Neighbours, 7:00pm fiver - two add break? it this allowed?

Not quite 25% methinks. Since the extra ad-vreak was introduced in the 7pm re-run on Fiver, if I ever
miss either the early afternoon first-run or late afternoon re-run on Five, I'll download the show from
an unofficial source. And until the Demand Five "service" stops being a badly implemented heap
of crap that doesn't work properly, I shall continue to do so . . .

The barb ratings are out. clearly the H&A viewers switch off/over because of the two ad breaks in between. Fiver need to stop this approach as they are clearly losing viewers.

but won't Fiver be lossing out as viewers will be recording the show or the fact that they are no ad breaks in Demand Five - so how will Fiver be making money?

judging by the ratings fiver are happy with those figures and I ca not see them reduce the commeerical break to its normal standarRAB. its something you have to get use to.

I emailed Five about this and this is their response:

Thank you for your recent enquiry.
We have now started to transmit two advertising breaks in episodes of Home And Away and Neighbours on FIVER and have removed the break that was previously included between the programmes.
Five is regulated by Ofcom (as are the other UK commercial broadcasters) and we schedule our commercial breaks under very strict guidelines. The total amount of advertising minutage we are allowed to schedule has not changed since 2002 when the total amount of peak allocation increased. However, our advertisements are more likely to be placed in and around programmes that attract more viewers and at times when those viewers are likely to be watching although we are still limited as to how long and how often breaks are scheduled.
If there is anything further we can help you with, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Thank you for your interest in Five.

hopefully with Richard Woolfe quitting sky for Five he will hoepfully get rid of one of the ad breaks as he may understand how annoying it is for viewers.

Demand Five feeRAB the streaming video content via DoubleClick ad servers, and plays an
advertisement from the Demand Five sponsors. Which is why, for me at least, it doesn't
work properly. I stringently filter out any content from the most common ad servers
using AdBlock Plus in my preferred browser SeaMonkey, and also Firefox.

Even when I attempt to play the streams from Demand Five, directly through WMP after
extracting the URL of the ASX file, it only plays the advertisements, not the programs.

Oh. Interesting, well done for finding that out. Still annoying though, it's not gonna make me start watching Neighbours at 7 after watching Home and Away just because there's no break, it's only likely to put me off Fiver completely.

The government recently relaxed the regulations on ad breaks. Before, I think the commercial stations had to have ad breaks at certain times and of certain lengths depending on said programmes type and length. Now, commercial stations can have as many ad breaks as they like and they can put the ad breaks where they like to, hence Neighbours first ad break occuring on fiver after just five minutes.

I would expect all commercial stations to increase the length and frequency of ad breaks in the future. The commercial stations will suffer as a result.
