Trying to help my son with negative indices. I understand the basic "negative indices are just reciprocals" (eg, 5n raised to the negative 2 = 5 x n raised to the 1/2).
But I have now something like this:
3p^ -4 q^ -1
-----------------
6p^ 2 q^ -4
and
3^2 x 9^3
--------------
3^3 x 9^2
And I'm not sure how to do it-- do I combine first? Do I swap the negatives first? Haven't done algebra in 20 years... help please!
Help please, Tom! I am looking on a Negative indices Website and that's how it's been described detail for detail! Then how does the rest of it work?
