Needing help on poetry!?

Why is the phrase "They spoke as chords do from the string" effective in the poem 'first love' By John Clare..

ANY HELP! :)
 
It is effective because it means they sopke so beautifully to each other it was like the music from a string instrument, a harp maybe, or a guitar. To speak to each other like this shows love and a trusting in each other.
