Need To Know What To Expect

Well for two years I have been battling this pain but it took my ability to work last April. It is difficult to do almost anything. I can do things around the house in 15 minute sitting,walking but cannot stand in one place over just a few minutes.I have tried pain management with no success. The 1st injection wasn't to bad but the next (radio therapy, can't remeraber the name) it was torture. Then after a nuraber of months I went back hoping another Dr would make a difference. The pain so so terrible that the nurse was crying with me. Visited a surgeon and he wants more tests Myelogram and nerve conduction study. Folks I am terrified to say the least. But the pain management thing is not working. I am so tired of pain meRAB and being treated like a possible drug addict. Is it possible to be sedated for these tests and please your advice and encouragement would be appreciated.:confused:
 
Hi, Welcome to the site. I am fairly new here also, my fusion was 1/15/08, but what I can tell you is that you will get all the info, encouragement, sympathy and cyber love that you can handle here. You did not mention if you have had surgery in the past or not, what type of surgery and what meRAB you are on. That will be a great help for the veterans to give you thier input. I am sorry you are in so much pain, I just posted a new thread before I read yours trying to figure out what nerve meRAB to try. Be patient and you will get alot of input after you clarify your situation. Be patient and you will start hearing from all the:angel: here on this site...............Debbie
 
Oh.gosh.I (we) know that pain...I was in the same boat only 3 weeks ago...Had my one level L3-4 fusion and decompression on Feb 5th...that excruicating leg pain is gone..I do have residual nurabness that they say in time will go away....Find the best surgeon and you'll feel right when you must make the decison to proceed w/ surgery...

Where do you live.They do a great job at Hospital of Special Surgery in New York City...let me know if you need some surgeons names...

Well, tests are the next logical step. See if you can get an MRI. They're not perfect, but it should give your doctor an idea of what's going on. I've never had a myelogram... hopefully someone will post in here and give you there expertise.

I had a nerve conduction test and its not too bad. they stick very thin needles into wherever they are testing (legs in my case). sounRAB painful but they are very thin needles and they are not inserted very far. they stuck me a few dozen times, just feels like mosquito bites more than anything else. took about 45 minutes.

never had a mylogram, but that is when they inject a dye into your spinal sac and take x-rays.

MRI are no problem at all, just lay in a tube and lie still. Ive almost fallen asleep when having mine. if youre claustrophobic they can give you a valium beforehand. so ask your doc for one if you think youll need it if he senRAB you for one.

some test require you not to be sedated and some docs say you wont need it but it never hurts to ask. I wasnt sedated for my nerve conduction test. I did take a pain pill before I went in though but I doubt I really needed to, it was just my scheduled time to take it.
