need to get a used phone on the internet?

im using my sisters old env and the charger broke.so im just gonna get a cheap but nice phone online . but im confused on what i have to get cause some say no contract, no service plan, and unlocked.

i just have to switch my number to whatever phone i end up getting, so what do i have to look for ?
does it have to say no contract, or no service plan, unlocked or all of the above ?? please helpp
 
You want a phone with no contract. Otherwise you'll be in two contracts and have an early termination fee to cancel the extra line. Are you sure you dont have a n upgrade avail with Verizon or something?
