Need speedlite/flash for my Canon 40d. Which one should I choose out of the

following two options? I found a used 580ex II from a local guy for $275.00 I could bet a brand new 430 ex II at Best Buy for $269.99 + tax. The used 580 ex is about 2 years old and in good, not perfect condition. I am just starting out taking pictures so one flash or another doesn't really ring a bell in my head! What would be the obvious advantages of 580 vs. 430, and for which uses do I need an external speedlite? Thanks
