Hi guys. I hurt my lower back this past Saturday putting Christmas decorations away. I didn't think it was that bad tho, so we had to bowl that night and things were a little rough but still not that bad. Took some advil that night and slept well. Woke up Sunday morning felt a little stiff but that was about it. I had to also bowl that morning with my son in a tournament. Well after the 2nd game I could hardly throw the ball down the lane. We had to bowl 3 games so I made it thru them all. Needless to say that night the pain in my lower back was sooo bad, I couldn't even walk. Monday was the same way. I saw my PCP on Monday and he said it was just a back strain. Well here it is Thursday and nothing he gave me has worked, the muscle relaxers or the pain killers. I still can hardly walk, the pain is still very strong, especially when i try to get up, and forget about going into or getting out of a car. The pain is very sharp and sometimes goes into my hips and the top of my thighs. The only time the pain is gone is when I lay on my side. I have had a history of back trouble, but its always been "back Strain". When I was 12 jumped off a trampoline landed what seemed normal, but within 5 minutes couldn't walk, then again at 16 while playing football got hit hard, same thing, then around 25 felt a pop in my back, same thing, then just minor problems since then till now(all the same pain area). Can this really just be a back sprain, or maybe some problems with the disc and stuff. I think its time for either an x-ray or MRI, but for some reason he doesn't feel that it is necessary. What do you guys think? I am a healthy(except for bad back) 44 yr old active guy and I hate just sitting around.

hiya Sirrob....

YES! Ask your doc to get you a MRI. A regular xray doesnt show things that a MRI will show. You do have symptoms of disc problems. The first thing normally done is a MRI. Good luck to you and hopefully you will know whats wrong with your back....

It can be anything!...pray its just a strain.....hot and cold packs....aleve worked good for me for back pains when it was mild. The MRI is your best bet if things dont improve...meanwhile dont challenge your back!...you will lose.

good luck and I hope you get through this.
