Hi people,

im buying a kawasaki ninja 250r 2008 model and i was just wondering if it was a good idea because this is going to be my first bike. Just want to know how bikes handle in the wet and if a 250 is ok for my first bike.

thanks,

james

What that guy said....I would also suggest taking a rider safety course if you don't know how to ride yet. I would also suggest it if you do know how to ride.

The Ninja 250 is a good bike for a beginner. Not too big and heavy, easy to manage. Unless you plan to do a lot of freeway miles, in which case you'd want something bigger, maybe a 500. The 250 will ride on the freeway just fine, but it will be tiring on long trips and maybe a little more dangerous.

But I agree with the other guy, you shouldn't learn to ride on a new bike. You're going to be hard on your first bike. You're going to abuse the clutch. You might drop it once or twice before you get the balance thing all straightened out. If you bought a used bike, say 5 or 10 years old, maybe one that already has a few scuffs and bruises, you can sell it in 6 months or a year for about what you paid for it, and by then you will have a better idea what you really want.

Any bike is okay in the wet, so long as the tires are good. Riding in rain is a special skill, though, and as a beginner you have other things you want to learn first.

I'm usually against people buying a 250, your going to get comfortable riding and want a bigger bike in less than a month guranteed and your going to lose a bunch of money selling it to trade up to somethign bigger. Because this is the case why go out and spend a bunch of money on a brand new bike when you could get a 2005 Ninja or something a few years older which is stil in perfectly good condition but will only cost you about 2k. First bike you should buy something used but in good condition. I would recommend checking out a Ninja 500 or a Suzuki GS500, that should last you for at least a year or two.
