Need SERIOUS HELP-Single Contact info

OK, here is the deal. My fiance and I sold our iPhone 4's to get the new Samsung Captivate for AT&T. (It took some doing, but I got her to let go of that locked down signal dropping no sensor having piece of crap), but I digress. My contact info in her phone is the problem. When she wants to send me a text, it automatically deletes the area code for my number, therefore she gets an error. The actual number in the contacts has area code. I NEED HELP with this because she is getting frustrated and wants to go back to her iPhone. Any help is appreciated.

What happens if you long press on a blank area of the homescreen, shortcuts, direct message...

That should make a shortcut to use that contact's number to sent a text to, with no need to enter any phone number.

Android has had some known area-code bugs in the past, but I thought we were well past that now. Alas I can't test it here as I don't have a new phone yet

That would work for the first message sent, and it would be fine. But after she exits the messaging app, I send a reply, and she tries to reply to that, then it takes out the area code. Very odd problem. Oh, and it only happens on my number, contact info, etc.. No one else in her contacts.

So the question is... what's different about your number than numbers in other contacts? I wonder if some were entered as just numbers, like 1234567890, and others as numbers with hyphens or spaces, like 123-456-7890? Are the labels the same (e.g. Mobile / Home / etc)?

I have deleted my entire contact info from her phone and gmail and added it back with many different formats. +1-234-567-8910 , 12345678910, 1-234-567-8910, ((123)45678910) and any other configuration you can think of and all have the same result.
