Need poetry ideas for a birthday card for a troubled teen.?

My cousin is turning 15 soon and he's at a camp for troubled teens. His mother is a mega-fundie and she is really messed up in the head and his father didn't want anything to do with him. I know him pretty well. He's a sweet kid. He just had a hard life. I'm trying to think of something comforting to write in his birthday card. I don't get to see him very often. I just went to a family reunion, but he wasn't there on account of him being in a correctional camp.

I say do something about the hardships life throws at you and overcoming them and also let him know that you will always be there for him no matter the distance

The darkness of a shadow;
getting lighter by the second,
Everything comes to pass;
and so will this,
Darkest before the dawn;
lightest before the shadow,
And still life goes on,
And still we live

Hmm, try "attacking" the fact that he's in a correctional camp, tell him things will get better, and wish him a happy birthday ^.^
Wish him a happy birthday from me, too.
