Need phone replacement, confused by Alltel and Verizon?

I had a motorola krazr, and the screen broke. I was planning on buying a used phone over the ebay, then going to the Alltel store (if they are still called that), and switching my number to the used phone. The question is what type of phone should i get?: an alltel phone or a verizon phone? Im very confused
