Need new phone + new provider

I'm 22, about to graduate college, and live in Orlando, Florida.

From the provider I expect:
$25-$45 a month
200-400 minutes a month
text included in the price (I don't text too much, but some)
Internet (if it's worth it; I would like a WIFI phone if not to expensive)

From the phone
QWERTY (swivel, bar, whatever is ok with me)
Workable OS (windows/android/whatever if it works)
Modest camera
Touchscreen not necessary
Not too bulky
Music player (radio not required; expandable memory, 2gb+)
GSM or CDMA or whatever, doesn't matter

I'm not sure if it'll sound right, but I want something I can work and play with. Something that isn't meant strictly for business or just for texting.

The first thing that you are going to want to do is find out what provider has the best coverage where you are. No sense in spending 25-40 a month for garbage coverage. Pick the provider first, then decide on a phone. If you go the smartphone route, be forewarned that most of the providers require a data plan.

I agree with picking the carrier first. Don't assume or trust the coverage maps. Do your homework. Look at where you will use the device, where you live, work, travel and play.

One you figure out which carrier s best, then pick the device.

What's wrong with your current provider is also a question that needs to be asked. Coverage? Price? etc.

With your price range you've closed out VZW, Sprint and AT&T, but MetroPCS/Cricket or some MVNO's aren't out of the question.

I currently use Tmobile ToGo and this will be the first time I ever get a calling plan on my own. It's not like I'm leaving my old contract behind.

I've talked to different people and I've never heard of horrible coverage about any company. The worst one I've heard about is MetroPCS.

I'll do some more investigating on the companies. Thanks for the advice.

What's the limit on handset cost.

From what it sounds like, if you don't need too much data page plus 1200 talk n text is just fine..

you just pretty much described page plus. 1200 mins/1200 txt for $30 a month. and it comes with 50mb of data (which isnt anything when using a smartphone). i was in orlando last year with my family with every major provider (VZW, AT&T, T-MO, Sprint) and they all held up pretty well. but check with your friends and see what carrier has the best coverage in your area. maybe buy a couple of prepaid phones to try out coverage.

Virgin Mobile = Sprint
GoPhone = AT&T
Boost = Nextel
InPulse/StraightTalk/PagePlus = Verizon
Tracfone usually uses AT&T but might be different in your area

hope i helped!
