Very shortly, I am acquiring my family's business and it is in need of some repair. We own a dog boarding and grooming facility and lately our clientele has been shrinking (due to the economy, due to more competition). Does anyone have any ideas to get it on it's feet again?

In any economic environment still will be a need for any service or good but will less demand comes value which is a function of good job at lower price ,so the first thing is to bring your cost down which will give you room for lower price, this done by big companies as they layout some of the workers close or down size some of facilities to the size of incoming buisnes .
now put your focus on higher quality of service .
as you do this you are protecting against going out of buisiness
as things becomes better go back to slow planed expantion

So what you are saying is the the economy is NOT going to the dogs.

Since you have a very limited client list you might think of different come alongs i.e board your pup for 2 days and get the 3rd free. You can also start, or increase, selling some necessary products i.e. food, flea and tick, etc. With this you must remember to charge the same or less then what is around you.
