Need more advice on my 1982 Yamaha xj550. Motor wont turn over...no power to starter?

Ok... some of you have given me a lot of helpful advice about my first street bike. It is a 1982 Yamaha xj550 and has been super fun since I got it. In the past three weeks I have already put almost 1500 miles on it... LOL.

Today I went to start it and when I pushed the start button nothing happened. The key turns on, the lights and blinkers work and the battery is fully charged. I first tried to jump it by the battery, nothing. Tried to jump it at the silinoid... nothing. I checked three relays (dont know what they do except for the accessories one... and they work as far as i know. There are two above the motor under the gas tank. One is above the valve cover and one is under the seat. I dont know if they have anything to do with the starter.

I jumped it from the by going straight froom the battery to the starter and it started right up. But when i go from the silinoid to the starter nothing happens. But when I push the start button the silinoid does make a clicking sound. But someone said that doesnt mean the silinoid isn't shot.
Any ideas or advice? Please help so i dont spend money I dont need to spend.

ok... the engine is fine. like i said, it is in the starter components. not the pistons or rings or seals or gaskets and its not my muffler bearings or blinker fluid. so read the details of my question before you give an answer.... PLEASE.
Oh yeah... it just dawned on me a little while ago... after i did this question to jump the sylinoid by placing a key over the two posts. that also turned the starter. So, even though my sylinoid does click when i press the starter button, it seems, to me anyway, it is most definitely the problem. is there a way to check a sylinoid if i buy one from a cycle salvage yard? i would hate to buy another broken one

it wouldn't hurt to try snagging a junked one, they rarely break. just bring a multimeter to test it when you get there :)
In my opinion, it sounds like the solenoid switch is shot or shorted... but i'm not sure.

In the case you described, it sounds like its your Stator, or your clutch needs to be replaced (sounds silly, but it happens a lot in older bikes)
