hi, everyone. i hope someone can help me. i am a senior citizen, so i do not know or understand about all this new technology like all of you. my husband and i are moving to a rural area where we cannot get any high speed anything for our computer. i have heard people speak about the v-card, and i am wondering what it is. i am on my computer all the time. it is my link to everyone and everything. how much does a v-card cost? can it be used with my regular dell computer or do i need to buy a laptop? i have searched and searched the web trying to find a place that will give me all the info i am seeking, but i cannot find one. i thank you ahead of time if anyone can help me. i am really getting worried because we will move in 2 weeks, and i need my computer to be ready to go!! thanks so much!!

When you say the v-Card, are you referring to the Verizon broadband access card?

Basically, it hooks into your PC/Laptop's USB port. As long as you have signal in your house, you are connected to the internet.

Mind you, it may not be as quick as some of the broadband services out there (DSL, Cable Internet), it allows you to get the internet anywhere that Verizon has cellular coverage.

A few things about those cards
They do have file size restrictions (some have a 1mb max per download)
Streaming video or watching videos online may not work, and if they do, it may be against the contract rules.
Unless you know how to network and use Internet Sharing within Windows, you will need a card for every computer you want online (if only one person is going to be using the internet at once, then you can just move the card. If more than 1 person wants on the internet at the same time, then that's a problem

thank you for answering me. yes, i guess i am talking about the verizon card that you put into the computer. i guess it has to be a laptop to be able to use it? do you know what they cost? we cannot get dsl or anything for highspeed, but we can use our cell phones if we stand right by the window or outside. we live in a very wooded area out of town. like i said, i do not know much about these things. i do not know what broadband is or USB port or size restrictions like 1 mb max per download.

i am the only one that will be on the computer. my husband is worse than i am with this stuff.

thanks, again.

I would call Verizon for the prices of the service. Usually the card is included with the contract, but not sure.

You can use either a Laptop or a Desktop computer. You just need a USB port on either one.
