need help with my 1980 honda xr80?

hi i had to replace the clutch cable on my 1980 honda xr 80 and when i put the new one on it was a pain to find a grab point so i tightened the cable all the way and figured id go from there and slowely find a grab point but i went to grab the clutch cable and and i heard a snap and now my clutch cable moves freely the cable isnt snapped i tried moving the arm on the motor for the clutch and it moved freely whats wrong please help!!!! thanks
