Need help with Motorcycle problem?

My son has a 2001 Kawasaki and it is having a problem. He had run out of gas and since he refilled, he is backfiring. When the bike is leaning to the left, it runs fine, but when you tilt it to the right, it sputters. He pulled out the fuel filter and cleared it out, all plugs are fine and carburetor seems okay. Any ideas?
I'm not sure of the exact model. It's a big bike....I think a 700 or 900...he'll be home from school soon so I will update with exact model. Thank you so much!
It is a 2001 ZX 900....we got some carb cleaner and he's trying that now as well.
 
water or trash in the carb(s)...

you didn't list which model 2001 Kawasaki (range from a little single cylinder MX bike to mega cc multiple cylinder)
