Need help with Logitech Headset/mic?

I bought a Logitech headset with a mic built in a while back. it worked fine, i talked on it, recorded stuff...blahblahblah. however after i had used it some it stopped working completly. now when i plug in the usb so it will hook up it says that it is an unknown device. USB DEVICE NOT RECOGNIZED "one of the usb devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and windows does not recognize it. For assistance in solving this problem, click this message." That is what it says when i put it in. i clicked the message and did all the troubleshoot stuff i could but nothing seemed to work. when i look at in the usb part though, it says that no drivers are installed for the device. What does this mean? shouldnt the thing have automatically installed what it needed to work on my computer. or do certain computers only take certain microphones and headsets? i really need some help, if anyone could help me it would save me precious money and patience in working with it. thank you
