Need help with Flash Media Encoder?

I understand FME to be able to tweak it enough so that my stream is clear and doesn't skip. Occasionally it will hiccup. Sure this may be due to things I don't understand like spikes on my network or many other variable. What I do know is that I only have 1.5 GIGs of RAM. I have stopped as many services and processes as possible. There is one I am not sure about. It is explorer.exe. Probably the most well known and necessary EXE out there. As you can see I am not very computer literate. However I stream from my second less powerful computer. This is all the computer does all day is stream movies, toons and tv shows. DOn't worry you aren't helping me break the law. These are ALL 100% in the public domain or being stream with the creative commons attribution 2.5 & 3.0 or whatever those are called. I can transmit, distribute share etc. With some I can transmit but I can't make money from it. I don't make a dime. Anyways since I don't need to explore my computer files can I stop that process. Is FME dependent on that? I know people have had problems with no desktop icons etc. The only way they could navigate their computer was with the task manager. Well I am trying to gain another 26 MB of RAM and some more CPU power to stream without hiccups. Can I stop explorer.exe.
