need help with Chevy 350?

my Chevy 350 motor when it gets to running temp and I get on it when it hits a certain rpm it starts to sputter,or miss fire I'm thinking that it has to be the fact that some lames tried doing the timing and never got it back to on the money,n-e-ways my spark plug wires all are melted on to the headers caps are too long that could also cause that too right let me know people thank you....
 
Your melted wires is your problem, your timing is not off. My camaro melted A wire and thats what it was. You cant let your wires melt to the headers you need to buy shorter wires or tie them up.
 
ive always been told that if the timing off the car wont start. but i dont know about that thats jjust what i heard. but the wires should be changed the car should be fine after that if the wires are bad there throwin off ur igntion system
 
before you do anything, fix your melted spark plug wires. Get the proper length wires you need. Also, if your engine is built up at all, you may not want to cheap out on the wires either.

I'd guess you have a vacuum advance. You may want to check how its set, check initial and total timing as well. Check your spark plugs too while you are at it. If you have the HEI style distributer, you may have an ignition module or pick-up on the fritz.
 
Do you really need us to tell you what your problem (or problems in this case) is.

The timing is off, you said so yourself. Its not hard to time, if you can't, then have a shop do it.

The plug wires are MELTED. Get new plug wires and use the guides and holders to keep them away from the exhaust.
 
The timing and wires must be properly done of course. I had the same problem with a 350 and found out it was a bad ground wire to trhe motor. Check that. It drove me crazy.
 
Not counting the fried plug wires could over advanced ignition timing or fuel starvation.
