This is the first time buying a car for one of our kids, he's the oldest- 17 years old. He wants a manual 5-speed and one of my husbands co-workers is selling one but I thought 3k was a lot for a 1995 Honda Civic DX.
The owner switched out the engine in 2005, he's worked on the car himself to maintain it and also replaced the radiator, but it has NO power steering and there was a loud squeaking noise when test driving it.
I asked if the owner would put in a power steering pump for the 3k sale, but I was told that the vehicle never had power steering so to add it isn't as easy as just installing the pump.
Can anyone tell me if this is possible?
The owner said the loud squeaking only occurs when the AC is on and it was due to the belt. He said he put a new belt in and it's as tight as it can go, he said he had the dealership look at it and they said the belt is fine.
Does anyone know such issues?

Our 17 yr old son said he doesn't mind that there is no power steering, but this is his first car.
Once we had a vehicle when the power steering went out and it was hard for me to put all my weight into turning the wheel.
I'm not sure if this is worth 3k?
The power steering is the main reason that I have doubts, any suggestions?
